NEWS FLASH
The multi million euro upgrade of Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is continuing to advance. Following the recent opening of the central processor, overhauled A wing and the opening of the inserted runway, work is now taking place on the redevelopment of the arrivals area, including passport control and the baggage claim hall. The construction of a new Dufry Main Store duty free, stretching over 3.760 square metres is also taking place, after which the so-called “Tesla Square” will become the 2.800 square metre central plaza, with renderings of the future interior pictured. Furthermore, new open-concept shops and food and beverage facilities are soon set to open in the check-in hall, which will give the area a more spacious feel. Work has also begun on the redevelopment of the main runway.
Very warm and welcoming :)
ReplyDeleteVery nice, but I wish I can fill my water bottle somewhere.
DeleteWater is not even that expensive. Also, spoiler alert, every airport is expensive.
DeleteWell, I was flying out of Mexico City airport (MEX) in late May this year, and there was no place to get drinking water. The trouble was that tap water in CDMX is not good for consumption any way. We ended up paying $6.5 US for a 500 ml bottle of water.
DeleteIn BEG water quality is good.
DeleteIf it was about the money, they would put Baba Sera in front of every toilet. To me it looks more like putting water fountains just did not cross anyone's mind.
DeleteAnyone know when BEG will announce their numbers for June? It's the 17th and still nothing. I guess they are not rushing to publish them as they might not be that good.
ReplyDeleteFigures will be published tomorrow. Figures are published for the entire VINCI group and publication dates for each month are set at the start of the calendar year. It has no correlation with the performance of any particular airport in the group.
DeleteThey actually never publish them on a month-to-month basis - data usually comes from a politician or a 'leak'.
DeleteFigures are published by VINCI on a monthly basis and reported here on a monthly basis as well.
DeleteWow comments @10.33 and @10.40 just show how much crap people make up in the comments.
DeleteAnonymous10:45
DeletePeople are haters
There's hating and then there's straight up making up facts to suit an agenda or something...
Deletelol@10:33.. even the airports conspire, in some people heads
DeleteTakvi su ovde po zadatku, ne obracajte paznju na njih.
DeleteThey wake up every morning hopping to read some negative news about JU and BEG. When there are none they become miserable and try to input anything negative on here. Just very sad how people live .
DeleteThey have to fix the baggage scanner first and then take care of interior design.
ReplyDeleteExactly
DeleteBeautiful and cool for passengers
ReplyDeleteI like it. Much nicer than now. I also noticed that existing duty free is no longer there, I'm assuming because they will open the new one they are building now.
ReplyDeleteYou mean the big duty free as you walk in NT square is closed? Then I assume they will remodel that whole area too?
DeleteNo, I mean I noticed on the renderings that it is no longer there. The renderings include that area.
DeleteGot it. So that means Tesla Square will probably have no Duty Free shop.
DeleteNo, a new duty free is under construction. Read the article.
Delete"Furthermore, new open-concept shops and food and beverage facilities are soon set to open in the check-in hall, which will give the area a more spacious feel."
ReplyDeleteThis is actually good to hear. Seeing all the planned shop areas I was thinking how claustrophobic it will look all boxed in but makes more sense if they will be like an open concept.
I have a problem with new low ceilings at check in area. Most airports have high ceilings in that area. Plaza will be okay but check in is essential.
ReplyDeleteExactly.
DeleteThe old airport was big and spacious not looks like it will be small and suffocating
The airport is now double the size of what it used to be.
DeleteWould you please explain how the check in is essential?!
DeleteMost people check online nowadays, if not, they spend usually 15minutes waiting to check in and then they proceed to security, bars, restaurants, shops or to the gate directly and spend most of the time there.
I wander what are your arguments except you just want to be trashing anything, just anything.... Kakva su ti misli takva ti je duša! Misli o tome!
My arguments are the design of all other check in areas in all airports I travelled from. I am traveling weekly, always on AirSerbia. Moja duša je mirna, smislena je primedba i sve poreze i doprinose plaćam u Srbiji i zato imam pravo da komentarišem javne radove.
DeleteExcept those are not public works but private investments.
DeleteLiking or disliking is fine, but question was how the check in is essential? If all do it it doesn't mean it's has to be the same. Estetically, I would agree with you, but functionally I don't agree it is essential part of the airport.
Functionally, if we have a unified check-in area and crowd management, we should not have low ceilings. AirSerbia is operating in waves, meaning all those people come at a certain point to the exact spot. So far, the new solution for check-in counters 100 and 200 implemented in BEG is the only one I have seen with low ceilings. The check-in area should have higher ceilings and be airy and spacious. It is not a matter of design but of space and air volume.
Delete@Anon 09:28: How can you not think the Check-in area is not essential to an airport? I am genuinely puzzled.
Delete@ Anon 14:25: Your words make sense.
I agree that the check in terminal was done cheaply. It is not the future of the airports. It does not look modern at all. Ceiling need to be triple the size. Floors are some cheap laminate. One bathroom in the entire checking A terminal? Has anyone seen airports in Istanbul? Singapore? Dubai? Who are we comparing us against? On another note, walking area that connects the gates is lacking moving walkways. This is essential for every newly built modern airport. This airport is only newly. Nothing modern about this airport. Sad.
DeleteI am hoping for a proper sit-down restaurant. The current food options are really not that great.
ReplyDeleteThere is going to be Walter kebab infront of the airport where Borik used to be. I hope they will open it soon.
DeleteAnd since when Walter is a proper restaurant?!
DeleteBorik was a proper restaurant.
DeleteTalking of BEG, today Wizz was supposed to bring their 4th A321 which was scheduled to arrive from OTP at 6 and to operate BEG-DTM.
ReplyDeleteRomanians kept in Bucharest as their plane broke down to they sent it to operate OTP-LTN and they cancelled DTM from BEG.
Now let's see what they do with the rest of their schedule for today.
I think filling the airport with central zone shops and restaurants + those in long C and A gates will be key. Central shopping area is very important for passengers and if they do a good job there it will even out some 'not so good parts' (low ceilings in the checking area). I hope they also redo fully baggage claim area and arrival passport control sections. So far so good. Not a Waaauuu effect on the architectural side, but to be honest much better improvement vs. old. So good job!
ReplyDeleteDo they plan Walter bbq and/or some other food chain airside?
ReplyDeleteSincerely, I hope not! Serbia has so much of amazing food, tasty and delicious and also fit to be served is fast food as well as slow version, so I really don't understand the obsession with Walter and sarajevski ćevap. If we really want ćevap, can it be pazarski Which is much better? Or leskovački roštilj?!
DeleteWell, there used to be "Talimat" ćevap-store from Vranje at two locations in Belgrade, but one closed and the other rebranded - as for the Leskovac one, I have not heard od a franchise, or a chain - which is strange, knowing that people from Leskovac did not lack entrepreneurial spirit some 100 years ago.
DeleteI would much more prefer Savčić - they are expanding and can be considered a chain, but the food is much better than Walter.
DeleteSavčić is also sarajevski ćevap.
DeleteMy idea is not to obsessed with Walter but to have high quality restaurants with Serbian fast and slow food offers.
DeleteFood chains developed proper supply chains and procedures and that was the reason I did propose them.
Walter's pljeskavica I wouldnt give to a homeless dog!!!! WAY OVERPRICED but the taste is terrible/disgusting. If I would eat my first pljeskavica at Walter I would NEVER eat it again. I cant understand that Walter can survive with that kind of "food". I hope they bring some good food to BEG.
DeleteThey should upgrade Premium class.
ReplyDeleteGriliatto is killing me. It looks cheap nothing can help.
ReplyDeleteLight design is awful. Without inspiration, no emotion, lower than ordinary, and creats very uncomfortable atmosphere full od glare.
ReplyDeleteI can feel the trauma and emotional aguish this is causing you. Stay strong!
DeleteFound another beobuild guy
DeleteNow just fix the premium lounge into something more decent.
ReplyDelete"premium" lol
DeleteJust a question, are they going to expand the baggage claim area? as the current one stayed the same but the check in counters were much expanded... and the number of passangers are going too high and above for the current baggage claim in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteYes, the works are currently ongoing.
Deletedo you maybe know how many baggage belts will be there when works are finished?
Delete6
DeleteWhen will central plaza fully open to the travelling public?
DeleteWhen renovation of Terminal 1 will start? Terminal 1 is the most valuable building.
ReplyDeleteActually at the Airport, the T1 is small, and we wait 45 mins for check-in.
DeleteT1 was renovated back in 2015
DeleteT1 is the original airport, architectonically has to be preserved, yes it has been partially renovated which is onging process. I asked when Vinci plans to replace windows and settle the floor in T1?
DeleteI am not talking on behalf of Vinci, but in my opinion - never
