Ryanair plans to significantly grow in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) over the coming decade with low cost carriers (LCCs) commanding over 50% of total seat capacity in four out of seven markets in the former Yugoslavia. “We want to focus very much on this region. We see that this is going to be a large part of our upcoming expansion. It's pretty hard at this moment to say about the exact numbers, but we hope that the whole region is going to grow at least by 50%", Ryanair’s Manager for Central and Eastern Europe, Alicja Wojcik-Golebiowska, said. While Poland has long been one of Ryanair's key markets, Ms Wojcik-Golebiowska noted the company was now redoubling its focus on other countries in the region. Wizz Air has a dominant position in most of CEE, with a total 41.6% passenger share out of all the LCCs in the region.
Ryanair operates in five out of seven markets in the former Yugoslavia, the only exceptions being Slovenia and Kosovo. Wizz Air is the largest low cost carrier in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia and Serbia, with Ryanair having the upper hand in Croatia and Montenegro. In Macedonia, Wizz Air holds a 61.6% passenger share on the market and an 89.1% share amongst LCCs. In Bosnia its market share stands at 42.7% and 65.9% amongst LCCs, while in Serbia it has an overall 19.7% passenger share but 71.1% of the market when factoring only budget carriers. Within the CEE region, LCCs have an overall seat capacity share of under 50% only in Serbia, Slovenia and Montenegro, where network carriers are still dominant.
Ryanair has significantly increased its presence in Croatia over the past few years with the opening of its base in Zagreb, as well as its seasonal base in Zadar. However, it faces greater headwinds on other markets. The airline recently announced it would discontinue three routes from Podgorica due to an increase in airport charges. Furthermore, it discontinued operations out of Tuzla in June over taxes and despite talks with Sarajevo Airport over the potential introduction of flights, so far, they have not materialised. Almost a decade ago, Ryanair announced it would launch flights to Skopje in a direct challenge to Wizz, however, these plans were scrapped for unspecified reasons. The airline has also stagnated in Serbia with its operations out of Niš, while it does not operate to Pristina where Wizz Air became the airport’s largest carrier by passengers handled last year. Despite talks between Ryanair and the Slovenian government, last held in late January of this year, it has not found a solution to enter the market, the only in the European Union it still does not serve.
Ryanair says it will “catch up” in the region. "We see that Central and Eastern Europe was a little bit left behind over the last years. So, we want to catch up in this region to catch it up with our most developed markets like Spain, Italy or Poland", Ms Wojcik-Golebiowska, noted. She concluded, “We plan to do it with delivering more routes and better fares and more travelling choices for our passengers”.
We know that Wizz Air will win.
ReplyDeleteFirst W6 needs to make profits before they win.
DeleteThat Wizz Air share in Macedonia is wild
ReplyDeleteNot surprised.
Delete61.6% is not wild
DeleteIt is. Let alone 89% among LCCs.
Deletelol how much is it then at TZL nd BNX
DeleteAnon 09:27
DeleteYou are seriously comparing SKP with airports that have only a small fraction of its traffic?
only tells the success that Wizz has at SKP. If thats not challenging for FR then i dont know. They do want a challenge as we have seen recently
DeleteSKP after all is paying money for its traffic, not such a big surprise. Traffic is also because of the huge Albanian diaspora similar to TIA or PRN. Quite normal.
Deleteahaha. SKP didnt give a cent this year and its widely known to have the lowest subs in the region. "Paying money for its traffic" Quiet the most nasty and stupid post one can write
DeleteAccording to the Macedonian government, Lufthansa is being paid for its new flights to Skopje.
Delete10:58 - you are correct, good point
Delete@10:58 Lufthansa announced the flights even before the subsidies, also, Lufthansa is obligated to continue the operations after the subsidies end. Out of 19 carriers that are operating to SKP only Lufthansa is paid, as well as Wizz Air for these two new routes, one of which will be profitable anyway. All other routes of Wizz except Vaxjo are profitable year-round. Stop saying that we pay money for airlines to fly to SKP when the number of passengers is awesome compared to the population.
Deleteall right one route 7€ per passenger. That will make the difference! lol
DeleteMakes a big difference. Especially when on top of that you get TAV incentives.
DeleteLH doesnt get the subsidies.
DeleteYes it does. It won the SUBSIDY tender and was congratulated by the Macedonian government for getting them.
Delete@11.54 7€ big difference?? haha
Delete@10:47 is a typical troll on this site that keeps repeating false theories over and over. (and I am tired of of disproving lies) SMH
Delete16:26 - then prove how SKP is not paying for its traffic, here you have a recent example:
Deletehttps://www.exyuaviation.com/2023/04/macedonia-plans-new-subsidy-tender-for.html
17.46 are you for real? that you call "paying for traffic"? What are then the rest of the exyu airports doing with much higher subsidies/incentives??? Haters gonna hate.
Delete@17.46 you must be a genius
Delete18:13 It is good to call the things the way they are. Why are you denying that SKP is paying? Nmk has a population the size of a big European city. It is a landlocked mircostate that needs traffic so it's finding ways and nothing wrong about the subsidies. Common practice.
Delete@19:34 Tell me for which routes we are paying?? As i said earlier today, Lufthansa announced the flights before SKP announced subsidies, so u are wrong for that. Wizz Air? Wizz didnt get a euro since 2020, yes three routes were terminted hut 30 remained. You cant tell me that we have traffic just because we pay for it, when every plane arriving and departing from SKP is full, maybe just Aegean is struggling. Norwegian decided to start flying to SKP by their own, as well as easyJet, as well as Pegasus from Izmir, LOT from Warsaw, LH from FRA, Nordeind from Moscow and St.Petersburg...What u are saying is making no sence, i am sure that SKP handeled 300k pax which is 47k less then ZAG who has national carrier and many other mayor airlines. Also, i dont see where is the problem eith lcc? Air Serbia also has low ticket prices even though the service is better. Still, compared to other markets in the region with the same or bigger popuplation, we are the best. Slovenia has same populatuon but 20 routes from LJU and much less pax. There are max 14 flights per day of W6 from SKP, which is 50% if charters and other summer routes luke Antalya and Tunis are not included. Stop hating SKP for its success just because u are jelous.
DeleteLufthansa applied for subsidies and won at the tender for them. It's publically announced, minister congratulated them. I don't know why you are playing dumb when you know it youraelf too.
Delete19.34 Get over it. Wizz network at Skopje is self sustainable... They increased capacity by 30% this year without receiving a penny. They are adding a 6th one later and will receive subsidies for only 6 weekly flights to new routes (LJU and LUX). Subsidies for SKP are laughably low comparing to other airports in the region. To say Skopje is paying for its traffic is just a mean, nasty and hateful way of expressing ones angerness and envy about it. The amount of hate just suxxs.
Delete@21:02 are u okay? I didnt said that lh didnt get subsidies, i said that they were going to launch the route anyway even with out subsidies. Read before u comment something with no logic. People these days...
DeleteAnd you are really naive to think they were not informed about it beforehand?
DeleteAnd u believe that 7€ per passenger will make the 10 weekly flights profitable? That is 700 euros from 100 people on one flight which is nothing special since one way ticket is over 100 euros anyway. Get over it! There is demand for LH even though u dont believe just beacuse skp is one of the best for its capacity and population.
DeleteOk good thing Lufthansa realised Skopje is the best after it launched flights to all European capitals over the last 68 years.
DeleteDoes it metter? Frankfurt is just one of the 50 routes served by SKP, idk why Lufthansa flying to SKP bothers you so much 😂. Now dont try saying that 70% of the routes are operated by Wizzair, cuz nobody really cares if it is WizzAir or Macedonia Air or idk, what's important is that we have direct flights, much more then Lju, Sjj, tgd and around the same pax numbers with zag.
DeleteAnd just for your information, Skopje had direct flights to FRA until 2002 by Avioimpex and Palair Macedonia, as well as after that by some other not well known airline, so it is not the first time that we are directly connected.
DeleteAgain, one does not know why you are trigerred regarading the paid traffic. SKP has been doing this for W6 for many years and not an issue. Take a look at the W6 routes: a very good example is Friedrichshafen. A German village airport used mainly for a leisure airport and you still have flights. Yet again, there is a significant large number of Albanian population in the country and especially diaspora worldwide boosting the numbers. What is the problem acknowledging all those facts instead of being so dramatic all the time? Nothing wrong of having your traffic being paid.
DeleteBecause it is not true. If u ask me only Vaxjo is paid, that route doesnt make any sense, but the rest of them, they are profitable cuz the planes are almost always full. Wizz Air is not geting paid for the routes that are going to be increased and that is why we will never see daily flights ti Charleroi or Berlin, i know that they will reduce them soon after. But still this doesnt mean that with out subsidies there will be no flights. Still it is so much better to give W6 3 or even 10 million euros once in four years then giving money to a nationl carrier all the time like CTN.
DeleteStill aint convinced mate. You still have peculiar routes from SKP to other tertiary destinations. Also, BCN is gone very most likely due to lack of subsidies even though the schedule was very good. Some people have short memory...
DeletePAID TRAFFIC? Jealousity hits a new low
Delete"A German village airport used mainly for a leisure airport and you still have flights"
DeleteLMAO Im in that part of Germany and that flight is always full (A321). Flew it few weeks ago again. That route is SELF SUSTAINABLE. From that quoted sentence I can only read hate and perplexity
there are flights to FDH because there are passengers and not because of something else
Deletethe subsidies for this route ended 2018
paying for traffic means there would be no traffic if SKP doesnt pay. Thats why people are trigerred and rightly so. Outrageous claim by nothing but haters/trolls
DeleteWizz has a 5 A321 network without receiving a penny at the moment. The airport will surpass its 2019's record year.
Not sure why you consider paid traffic as an offence or a hate. SKP barely had traffic in the past and needed it so it found a good way of paying others to visit it or travel from it especially Wizzair. Not bad...
Delete"found a way of paying others to visit it or travel from it". Such a HATE!
Deletewhat are then the rest of exyu airports doing that either spent hundreds of milions for their national carriers or the no-tax airports beeing bullied by companies. LOL
Delete@11.33 go and write that in LJU-related articles about their tender of 16.8mil. (its much more then the 4 macedonian tenders in 12 years together) but I havent see you there ....
Deletepaid traffic is not an offence??? WTF
Delete13:01 what part did you not understand?
Deletehttps://www.exyuaviation.com/2023/04/macedonia-plans-new-subsidy-tender-for.html
Tender to attract new routes and paid by the government, so what? If you pay you get more visitors, nothing strange.
haha some guys cant cope with SKP's success it seems
DeleteNobody denies the numbers are good, but it doesn't come for free. Capisci ?
Deletefor free? even FRA has an incentives plan. SKP's subsidies are by far the lowest in ExYu as reported on this blog. Yet some cant cope with it
DeleteStop using FRA over and over again and cope with the fact that SKP is not getting its traffic for free. Do you remember its numbers in the past? Barely half a million for the entire year. Why do you also deny the huge Albanian diaspora that contributes to those numbers? It is always the same...
Deletehaha! Go and see MNE. They paid 7.6mil last year only. Havent seen you shouting "paying for traffic" there
DeleteThey are not paying, they are giving discounts. You should have a look at the huge discounts Wizz gets from TAV in Skopje.
DeleteWhile easyjet kind find the region on the map.
ReplyDeleteEasyJet is funny. One of the largest airlines in Croatia with over 1 million passengers, almost 20 destinations from Split and no base.
Deleteeasyjet is very strong on the Croatian coast in summer, more flights than Ryanair, except for Zadar
DeleteFrom what I've heard, easyJet offered to base a plane in LJU after Adria went belly up. The airport agreed but started giving them conditions about where they should fly so easy eventually gave up.
DeleteThe same happened in RJK, their second ex-yu destination after LJU. They started with 7 weekly flights to Gatwick and Bristol, LF was excellent, they had huge plans to grow and cover ZAG, Istra and North Dalmatia via RJK, but the airport literally chased them away by providing literally zero services for particular flights. They were warned by Easy and they did nothing again. So Easy left and was absent for long long time. Now they returned with two weekly to Gatwick and Berlin but it's still far away from it could and should have been
DeleteI don't se Ryanair being able to expand too much in ex-Yu due to high taxes, for their standards, across the board.
ReplyDelete* see
DeleteI said it before and I will say it again - due to its stubbornness Ryanair is losing the biggest market in ex Yugoslavia - Belgrade.
ReplyDeleteIf normal, commercial BEG prices are more than acceptable for Wizzair, easyJet, Pegasus, Norwegian, Eurowings etc I do not see a reason why Ryanair can't operate in Belgrade by having the same prices.
Staying out of the game in BEG they just keep losing possibility to catch up other companies that fly to BEG for decades.
They can help a lot in Belgrade. Then we will see the complete connectivity of BEG with all of Europe.
DeleteI'm sure O' Leary is very upset for missing out on the BEG market!
DeleteBEG can't manage to serve the current airlines and travelers.
DeleteWhat makes you think that it will be able to handle the extra weight of a Ryanair base?
They have no need to operate in BEG, when they can get higher profit margins elsewhere.
DeleteI have no doubts that O'Leary is very upset about Belgrade as it is one of rare airports that did not take off its panties in front of FR unlike many other cities in the region.
DeleteIf BEG can or can't manage current airlines should not be FR concern. After all, starting from autumn everything will be back in normal.
I am not sure they would be having higher profit margins elsewhere as even FR competition in BEG does not have cheap prices. Very often W6 is more expensive than JU that gives them huge profit margin especially as FR is not in the game.
They voluntarily leave the biggest market to their competitors.
count in SKP and LJU too
Delete@Anonymous09:14
Deletewell, nearly 4 million passengers so far this year disagree with you. also, BEG is by far the biggest market in exYU region, so there is a place for FR. and if they play well, they can easily overtake W6
to add to the previous anon ... @9.14 we see how big is their profit margin when they publicly cry about a 1.5€ fee jump
Deleteall these mini airports they are exploting to the max have limited capacities (routes wise)
Anon@09:25
DeleteDid you actually mean to say this?
'After all, starting from autumn everything will be back in normal.'
It is great that you took only one sentence to analyse.
DeleteWell, like it or not, it is true.
sooooo we have to wait another 10 weeks for things to be back to normal.
Deleteok, no big deal right?
"BEG can't manage to serve the current airlines and travelers.
DeleteWhat makes you think that it will be able to handle the extra weight of a Ryanair base?"
You have no idea what you're talking about, beg airport is expanding a great deal as we speak.
What are those airport fees at BEG now?
DeleteI doubt they're higher than those at ZAG, even with a whole bunch of incentives in the form of discounts on passenger service charges for new routes - the ones that initially brought FR to ZAG. Those discounts however go down every year, for example: they were 80% in the first year, 50% in the second and 25% in the third. Additionally, all fees went up by over 14% this year to over 19€.
Basically next year FR will be left with only 10% discount and the year after that..no discount on that 19.5€ charge.
Thing is they've since introduced new landing fees discounts under certain conditions, plus permanent terminal and ramp fee discounts which won't incrementally go down but again only for new routes and only for airlines with based aircraft, such as FR.
Essentially what I'm saying is, you're probably right depending on what the prices are at BEG, because for all I know they might be the same or even lower than those at ZAG, even with these new, permanent terminal fees discounts for the airlines with based aircraft
You can se their charges here
Deletehttps://beg.aero/sites/belgrade/files/pdf/price_list_of_airport_services_01_01_2023_eng.pdf
Thanks!
DeleteWhat happened to Armenia and Georgia? They also want to fly to Moldova and Libya. However, it is sad that they have so few routes from Serbia.
ReplyDeleteWho?
DeleteRyanair will never come to Macedonia, because Wizz is dominating here .... More stronger airlines is not coming here because they know Wizz hold all our market , and all our diaspora travel from villages that Wizz operates. But I still hope that in future we will get connected with Paris , Amsterdam , Madrid and for sure Doha and Dubai again
ReplyDeletelol
Deletethe "dominance" of Wizz is a sign that there is a functioning lcc market unlike somewhere else based only on non existing taxes.
Deletethats why Lufthansa and Norwegian have come. svasta procitas
Delete@10:48 taka! W6 operates on 10 routes to Germany but still LH managed to launch 10 weekly flights to SKP, there are many people who dont use Hahn and used to fly to FRA via VIE.
DeleteWishing Ryan a lot of success
ReplyDeleteKind of you to write.
Deletejust come to SKP
ReplyDeleteI dont understand why they are not flying London Stansted - Ljubljana
ReplyDeleteEasyjet used to fly from Stansted, Luton and Gatwick at the same time to Lju.
DeleteThey never launched LTN
DeleteOh my bad. Was Wizz flying on LJU-LTN when Easyjet wanted to launch it?
DeleteNo
DeleteSouthend.
DeleteOh exactly. It was kind of weird that they were flying to Southend becouse it is pretty far out from London. Do you maybe know why they stopped flying from Southend?
Deleteits Monty Python that FR is ignoring BEG and SKP
ReplyDeleteFR can easly launch Arlanda, Barcelona and Madrid from SKP, Stansted as well.
DeleteBEG has one of the lowest percentages of pax flying LCCs in Eastern Europe.
ReplyDeleteI don't see them trying to attract Ryanair at all.
BEG has strong national carrier, but still we have a lot of LCC companies
DeleteLots of LCC companies that all together have the smallest market share in Eastern Europe!
DeletePlease provide a link of that claim.
DeleteAirSerbia has close to 50%, other legacy carriery have about 25% which leaves remaining 25% to LCC. That is more than good and enough I would say.
DeleteI know some will cruissify me for this, but large hubs have the same or similar structure, check Amsterdam, Madrid, Bruxelles etc.... And here I am not comparing the total passenger numbers, but proportion of them in the airport working as a hub.... In ex-yu, BEG is working as a hub, unlike others are just serving P2P demande.
half of the market then ... is it not wild?
DeleteOf course not.
DeleteKLM has 60% in AMS.
And KLM plus Transavia probably even more, like 70 %, (if you haven't included HV numbers in KL numbers already, being part of the same group)
DeleteMontenegro is probably the only market in Europe where two national airlines offer the most capacity :D
ReplyDeleteYes, but that is quite a unique situation since the travel market between RS and CG is huge.
DeleteIt's time for Ryan to open a permanent base in Zadar.
ReplyDeleteIs there enough demand during winter?
Deletema kakvi
DeleteNo
DeletePossibly to the German market but that would be it.
DeleteThere is no market, only few tourists in winter and not enough locals who would fly at economical prices. Look at the passenger numbers of Split in winter.
DeletePlitvice and Krka national parks, more beautiful in winter than in summer, sailing on Kornati, Congresses, Health tourism (health services double or triple cheaper than in most of North or West Europe or USA), Sports tourism (sports teams preparations), hunting and fishing n Lika, cultural heritage on UNESCO list on the coast, Gastronomy tours, olives harvest and oil making attendance, Golf complexes, options in winter are plentiful, unfortunately Kradeze did nothing for 30 years to develop any of the above mentioned potentials
Deleteand when the wind starts ...
Deletedalmacija is not a winter destination and it stays that way, no matter who governs. there are far too many better regions to go on holiday from November to March
DeleteTourist workers are on their 8 month winter break.
DeleteNaturally. Although not necessarily 8 months, in the tourist centers it is more like 6 months. Many people work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week at peak times, so people want a break from work in the winter
DeleteIt is not like that in all tourist centers.
DeleteAll Spanish coast is also open during the winter. Not to mention Turkey, Egypt...It seems only people in Croatia deserve to rest, nobody else.
@10.37
DeleteOf course, wind blows only in Zadar and Dalmatia, nowhere else 😃. Btw wind is very good for sailing, and half of things I listed are indoors activities
@12.04
There are many better regions for winter holidays for us from the South, but people from the North have slightly different criteria. Plus, absolutely everything I wrote has nothing to do with the sun and the beach, another typical stereotype of "holidays". And yes, government has everything to do with creating conditions and environment for it to happen
@12.09
Open market. If you can't find local tourist workers to work in winter (and believe me, plenty of them would be more than happy to work and have decent income year-round), foreigners are always the option. So, it's just another "lazy Dalmatians" mantra
Dalmatians are not lazy, but foreigners are an option 🤣.
DeleteProbably in the case if Dalmatians become lazy.
For your information, most of them go to work to Slovenia, Austria, Italy and Switzerland during the winter for work. Probably because they are even more lazy than your prejudices can imagine. Wish you good continuation of your laugh 😅
DeletePeople from Switzerland and co. simply can't surrvive without Dalmatians so they can't wait season to be over in Croatia to get some real work force. 🤣
DeleteI wonder what happened afer you woke up.
The one who needs to wake up is you, get some facts, enter real World and leave prejudices out
DeleteŠto rade Dalmatinci zimi?
DeleteIdu u Big Brother!
"sun and the beach" I didn't write that, but most middle Europeans and that's the biggest group of tourists in Croatia prefer to go on ski holidays in winter instead of traveling to the northern Mediterranean, be it Croatia or the French coast for example
DeleteSorry but no one is going to Croatian sea in winter next to Cyprus, Gran Canaria, Malaga etc. Let’s be realistic, winter is for mild temperatures and A LOT of cultural activities, which Dalmatia lacks even in summer. If I want in December to go south, I need +15C, not +2C
DeleteI don't get how Dubrovnik and Split are so expensive for Ryanair? Practically all LCCs fly there and they don't seem to have problem with the price.
ReplyDeleteExactly the same situation is in Belgrade.
DeleteRyanair always wants discounts, like in Zagreb and Zadar. But Split and Dubrovnik don't need to give discounts
DeleteCorrect.
DeleteWe have even read here that Ryanair is paying only 2 eur tax in Zagreb. Crazy!
and it was 2€ in Podgorica too we read
DeleteWith more and more legacies flying to SPU and DBV, I don't think Ryanair is their top priority.
DeleteProbably some bigger carries like BA or EasyJet are blocking them in Dubrovnik and Split
DeleteHaha good one.
Delete@09.33
Delete2 euros tax in ZAG for FR is rubbish, another lie and another BS served by incompetent aparatchik Jasmin Bajic in order to reduce level of disgrace of pathetic feeder OU
well tell us how much it is then? All the guys that are shouting "lie" are not able to answer this question...
DeleteI will tell you nothing. There is official statement of MZLZ, following Jasmin's lie, where everything is explained. Find it and read it.
Deleteeverything? people are stil clueless after reading it
Delete@anon 13:34
DeletePozdrav simply does not know it.
Well, if "people" have rather low IQ, not allowing them to understand, I feel sorry for them. I also feel sorry for those individuals posting as anonymouses, referring as "we" for themselves, and replying to their own posts, only in order to advocate and defend pathetic loss making feeder OU and its aparatchik puppet Jasmin
Deleteyet again no number from him
DeleteWrong address. Try Drzavni zavod za statistiku, for numbers. And stop manipulating and drawing attention away from lies told by aparatchik Jasmin
DeleteBla bla bla ... mi mi mi
DeleteI still see no number.
DeleteMi mi mi like we we we (meaning : I, me and myself). Correct? Oh yes, I almost forgot : Jasmin was lying and manipulating public. Actually there is another possibility : maybe poor soul have no clue what he is talking about. But you have every right to believe every word such competent person with such astonishing business results says
DeleteJasmin might be incompetent (probably is) but you are acting like a troll. Am not even from HR
DeleteWith normal and civilized people I act with respect and manner. With trolls I act as a troll because they only deserve that kind of answer. The last one I will not comment.
DeleteAir Serbia is the only local airline that's successfully competing against LCCs. Croatia Airlines has been pushed back in Zagreb, Air Montenegro is struggling and other markets don't even have a fla carrier.
ReplyDeletethats why Wizz is adding new routes constantly and basing a 4th aircraft
DeleteAny guesses on what might be the busiest LCC route to ex-Yu?
ReplyDeleteProbably London-Zagreb by Ryanair.
DeleteNah that only one daily flight
DeleteWizz BEG-BCN might be a good shout
Deleteyou are so fixed on ZAG and BEG that you forget that the 3 busiest routes in PRN (2 x easyjet) and SKP (1xWizz)
DeleteOk now we need LCCs to start flying inside ex-Yu.
ReplyDeleteYou already have those
DeleteZagreb-Podgorica by Ryanair (ending soon)
Skopje-Ljubljana by Wizz Air (starting soon)
ONLY!
DeleteAnd no local ex-Yu LCC.
ReplyDeletethere is absolutely no need. No local LCC could compete with Ryan, Wizz, Eurowings. It could have if it were around before all of these entered the market but now no chance.
DeleteAfter they max. exploiit the 0-3€ airports they will have to come to the ones with normal fees
ReplyDeleteBut they will lose that market first.
DeleteIn Belgrade I guess Ryanair dont want to compete with Wizz as dont have the appetite for a price war. I am wondering would there also be restrictions for them due for say adding another London route or even Dublin because Air Serbia dont fly there? Ryanair also have an issue with not enough planes to keep up with their demand. It’s a very interesting business model with how many subsidiaries they have within the business and used it effectively to grow
ReplyDeleteThere are good reasons why JU does not fly to DUB.
DeleteI think for Ryanair opportunity for Manchester with many British companies with offices in Belgrade being based in the north of England and also a London Gatwick flight would be beneficial. Alongside whether it be Wizz or Ryanair we could do with more connections across Central and Eastern Europe
DeleteI don't know how many times people have to be told, Serbia cannot and does not put restrictions on any EU airline to any EU route + Norway and Switzerland. It is not possible. Don't know why some keep repeating this false mantra that someone would restrict them.
Deletehaha what abot INI-Hahn?
DeleteThe route is under PSO. And under EU regulation if the route is under PSO it can't be operated by another airline commercially. Logical thing would have been for government in that case to drop PSO but it is their right not to do it. Again, what about Wizz Air starting Belgrade-Berlin, Belgrade-Copenhagen, Belgrade-Milan, Belgrade-Lisbon this summer? All Air Serbia routes. Stop with unfounded, baseless and outright incorrect conspiracy theories.
Deletesince when Serbia is following EU regulations ... *rollseyes
DeleteWithout sounding rude, but Brits know nothing about Serbia. There were never any bridges to promote the country. Serbia, being a relatively big country in the region has very poor connections to the UK. Very few London options, no flights to Manchester, Birmingham or Edinburgh. Yes, Serbs do need visas but if you compare other countries in the region with the same issue there are still good flights.
DeleteSerbia in return is not making any active campaigns to promote Belgrade and especially Kapaonik because Brits are crazy for ski and generally love the Balkans a lot.
London flights to and from Serbia are notoriously expensive and always have been even if you have flights to LHR and LTN. Same applies for Ireland. Zero flights to Dublin is also quite strange.
In this case it is. Repeating a lie a hundred times does not actually make it the truth. Now find another conspiracy to peddle.
DeleteZero flights to Dublin are not strange at all. Almost nonexistent Serbian diaspora in Ireland, visa required to enter Ireland with average wait of over a month to be issued a visa requiring tons of documents in order to get one, few business ties and no interest in tourism on either end.
DeleteFully agree.
Delete@ anon 10:58
DeleteIn regards to aviation, Serbia's laws and regulations almost entirely matches the EU. EASA and DCV is practically copy paste. Security wise, BEG is even treated by the EU as it would with other EU airports.
Since 2009, Serbia has an open skies agreement in place with the EU where these rules regarding PSO routes would of been put in place. Wizz and Ryan Air both launched flights to INI 3 years prior to JU starting PSO routes.
@ anon 10:59
For 2 seasons (2006 & 2007), there were winter charters from LGW to INI for British tourists heading to Kopaonik. Thompson was operating the flights I believe 1 pw with a mix of B737, B757 and B767. Alot was spent on advertising Serbia in the UK and it was initially successful. Serbia however didn't really do much to continue this momentum, while Bulgaria kept investing in attracting more Brits to Bulgaria. Serbia lost out and stopped being advertised in the UK. Thompson was also interested in flying to UZC to offer Zlatibor charters as well, however almost 20 years later the airport is still not capable of handling commercial flights.
https://www.b92.net/biz/vesti/srbija.php?yyyy=2006&mm=11&dd=12&nav_id=219752
Also at that time, Jat had 3 routes to the UK (BEG-LHR, BEG-LGW and TIV-LGW) and BA had daily flights to BEG from LHR.
I’m sure Vinci have been trying to convince Ryanair to come to Belgrade as they have a good relationship with them. I think at over 10 of their airports in which they are the operator, Ryanair uses as a base
ReplyDeleteHighly doubt it.
DeleteOnly Ryanair can save ZAG and mabye try to get other airlines to come ti ZAG. OU can't do a thing...
DeleteOU run by Kradeze aparatchik, in function of feeding LH and expediting AP getting Brussels armchair, can't do a thing, fully agree. OU without political influence, led by competent experts, with strategy and with all potentials of Croatia and the Balkans, could do a miracle for ZAG, with or without FR operating there
DeletePlease start flights from Germany to PRN. Tjere is a huge potential to make:)
ReplyDeleteYou gotta tag Ryanair in your comment otherwise mr Ryan won't be able to see your message and will miss out on the huge potential
DeleteHello it's me Ryan I have decided to start flights from Germany to PRN and use the huge potential. Any other requests?
DeleteRyanair would bust Croatia ops as well, but they fear increasing competition from OU. Especially grom Mostar.
ReplyDeleteHahahahahahahaha, always good 👍😃
DeleteThe important part to notice here is that Ryanair WANTS to expand to Balkans and also NEEDS to in order to expand and as a part of ongoing battle with WizzAir. This must be taken into account by local airports and not yield to their pressures and blackmailing. There is a leverage now, and if they want to expand, let them pay their share.
ReplyDeleteafter they are finished with the for-free airports they will come to BEG, SKP and LJU and not only "with a couple of routes"
DeleteLet's not forget that 5 eur (if not 2 eur) tax is also considered as "for free".
Deletewould be great to have them in Ljubljana (London, Berlin, Madrid)
Deletewould be really good but there was a lot of talks in recent months and always the same conclusion that it won’t happen
DeleteSarajevo incoming for Ryanair?
ReplyDeleteNot gonna happen any soon
DeleteLargest market not covered by CEE specialist Wizzair is Zagreb. Ryan is not expanding in Zagreb as quickly as some expected. This creates a rare opportunity for Wizz to come in and establish themselves in Zagreb.
ReplyDeleteWith both Wizz and Ryan, Zagreb airport could finally reach over 4 million passengers pet year. The only downside would be further decline of Croatia.
Further decline of Croatia follows no matter both Wizz and Ryan in ZAG, one of the two, or none. Their decline is not result of the outside factor, it is within the "organization of associated labour for feeding in air transport and uhljebing OU", mentally stuck in 1950's.
DeleteI mean, if Ryanair wants to better serve Serbia maybe they should focus on Belgrade rather than Kosovo.
ReplyDeleteThe kosovo market is proportinally very large given the population and income. Rynair would be very wise to enter the Kosovo market in 2024 with visa liberalisation. Vienna, stockholm, eindhoven, prague, baden baden would all spring to mind
DeleteWhen Belgrade had just 1-2 Wizz based planes and Air Serbia offered much smaller set of destinations we saw comments asking for Ryan to come to BEG to offer more variety. In recent years passengers have been well served for by both W6 and JU offering many new destinations and offering direct competiton, so passengers are not likely to post so many comments asking for Ryan to come to BEG.
ReplyDeleteDespite that, many comments were posted today with variations of "Ryan should come to BEG". It would not surprise me if one person/people who are not really fans of JU are posting those comments in hopes presence of both W6 and FR would hurt JU.
Jasno to je amaterski analiticar
DeleteRyanair came to Zagreb because Wizzair is non existent and Croatia Airlines is weak .
DeleteThey bet that OU would collapse immediately and Ryanair will have a monopoly .
Of course they didnt have in mind that in Uhljebistan the clocks tick different than elsewhere and now they are stuck in their Zagreb trap and whine around like the toddlers they really are ...
They wanted to challenge Wizz at TZL but left because of 1.50€. Lol
ReplyDeleteMuch ado about nothing
