Air Serbia welcomed 2.76 million passengers on board its aircraft during the January - August period and is on course to surpass its 2019 end-of-year result, which stood at 2.81 million passengers, next week. The busiest destinations during July and August 2023 in the region were Tivat and Podgorica. In Western Europe, Zurich, Paris and Amsterdam had the most passengers, while in the wider Euro-Mediterranean zone, popular destinations included Istanbul, Larnaca, Athens, and Barcelona. Among long-haul destinations, New York was the busiest during July and August. Commenting on the result, Air Serbia’s CEO, Jiri Marek, said, “The current summer season will be remembered for numerous challenges. Bad weather conditions, frequent refuelling bans, insufficient staff at airports, a global shortage of spare parts, and other unfavourable circumstances, which have affected operations throughout the summer. Despite it all, during July and August, we carried over a million passengers to more than eighty destinations worldwide, thus breaking our records set even before the Covid-19 pandemic. The busiest month was July, during which we carried 27% more passengers compared to July 2022, and 39% more compared to the same month in 2019. Good results were also recorded in August, which was our 14th consecutive record-breaking month. At this moment, we are already intensively preparing for the upcoming winter season, which is expected to be very dynamic".
Well so far they have close to triple daily extra flights in winter. Their network is going to be much stronger than ever before. They are definitely going to have over 3 million passengers in 2023.

ReplyDeleteMore than enough time for Air Serbia until next summer to figure out ground handling, flight crew salary increase, spare parts sourcing and maintenance, aircraft lease, cabin retrofit and other possible showstoppers. No excuse for one more summer of bad surprises.

DeleteIn this summer season I noticed how transition from diaspora airline to regional hub was ongoing. On FRA-BEG were a lots of Non-Ex-Yu passengers flying from Germany especially to Greece with transfer in BEG. One family with 2 kids told me they were saving about 1000 EUR flying FRA-BEG-SKG with AirSerbia in comparison with LH.

DeleteWhat is actually most fascinating id the fact that AirSERBIA is not growing even faster is only because of lack of planes… They could easily double up of many of their routes and still have high load factor.

With these winter increases, some routes more than in summer, they could go over 4 million passengers in 2023.
