NEWS FLASH
Air Serbia has wet-leased an Airbus A330-300 aircraft on a short-term basis from Spain’s Wamos Air. The seventeen-year-old jet, registered EC-NOF, arrived from Madrid yesterday and has been deployed on the airline’s New York service this morning. It temporarily replaces the Serbian carrier’s A330-200 registered YU-ARC, which left for Istanbul for maintenance this morning. EC-NOF features 377 seats, of which twelve are in business class and the remaining 365 in economy.

I think there's actual a decent chance of them wet leasing it for this whole winter, and opening China flights

DeleteActually, they should.
DeleteBeen speaking for ages how they need the A330-300.
Interesting, will they be selling the flighs as 270 seats (YU-ARC) or 377 seats (EC-NOF)?
Actually, they had 360 seats in economy, they sold the entire plane not just the regular size of the A332
DeletePax, not seats*
DeleteThey are not satisfied with this one, its cramped and not suiting to the current product they are offering.
DeleteAnd why did ARC have to go for maintenance?...something unexpected?
ReplyDeleteMaybe is small check.
DeleteRadio systems used for oceanic overflights is INOP, hence aircraft does not have ETOPS and is unable to operate over the Atlantic. Should be quick change however.
DeleteWhy dont they fix it themself?
DeleteAir Serbia has a Maintenance department
No, it does not.
DeleteSo how do they release the A330s if they dont have licensed engineers????
DeleteSpare parts you get within hours on AOG basis
"Spare parts you get within hours on AOG basis"
DeleteYou have obviously been living under a rock and have no clue what is going on in the aviation industry.
hundred of jets around the world are grounded because there is a shortage of all parts. even if Air Serbia picked up the phone to order it, they would be bottom of the list and would wait months.
Deletetheir only hope is that the turks have it in their warehouse.

DeleteSpare parts are almost non existing. Airlines are either forced to have stocks of their own, which is now reserved only for big players in the market ordering thousands of those individual parts, or you are forced to get them either used, or however else you can.
They do not have a licensed A330 mechanics at the moment, they are schooling several of them - and it is a temporary thing really. Base maintenance for 330 was never done in Belgrade, only line and some small modification not touching the structure or systems itself.

DeleteYou're wrong, MEL that ARC has no impact/restriction in terms of ETOPS if aircraft is operated within VHF range. After maintanance done at ISL, ARC still has the same MEL.
Might be good to lease an A330 from Wamos or another carrier and start China without waiting for your A330.
ReplyDeleteAgree !
DeleteAnother option: go back to 2022 and order 3-4 A330 without wating for China. Not possible, but Air Serbia should have thought about doing it. Much better than wet leasing A330 now.
DeleteAre you OK?
DeleteWho?
DeleteAir Serbia effed up by not ordering more A330s at the time they went for YU-ARC.
DeleteYou suggested that JU should travel back in time to acquire the equpment.
DeleteAgain: Are you OK?
Are you able to comprehend this: Not possible, but Air Serbia should have thought about doing it?
DeleteHindsight is always 20/20 vision. Now it is clear Air Serbia should have leased more than just one A330 last year.
An interesting fact is that for a short period during the pandemic, Air Serbia had fewer AirPink planes. Now something has changed and we are already talking about Seoul and Tokyo.
ReplyDeleteWhat happens with JU fleet ? Some planes aren’t here since many months, weeks ??
ReplyDeleteWhich planes?
DeletePlanes are not operational for "months, weeks .... ??"
DeleteYU-APA operational
YU-APB operational
YU-APC weekly check today
YU-APD weekly check today, resumes today with SVO in the afternoon
YU-APE operational
YU-APF operational
YU-APH operational
YU-APK operational
YU-APL operational
YU-APM operational
YU-APN operational
YU-APO operational
YU-APS operational
... and this is only A319/A320
ARC is today in Istanbul for radio modification.
ARB is operational.
ATRs - all operational
Is Wamos air specializing in short term leases? It seems they are always around when they need a plane quickly and for a few days. I imagine Wamos charges a lot for this service. Some people suggested they lease a plane from them to start flights to China, not sure how profitable that would be.
ReplyDeleteShort term vs long term wet lease has a lot of difference - mostly the price
DeleteThe same plane was leased to Saudi with long-term basis, so it could be a real possibility
DeleteIs it Wamos Air or Saudia? Looks like it’s a double leased plane.
ReplyDeleteIt is not "double leased". Wamos Air wet leased the plane previously on a longer term basis to Saudia but it no longer is wet leasing to Saudia.
DeleteMan, 365 seats in economy!
ReplyDeleteComparing to standard JU 330 configuration this must be a hectic for pax who expect more spice.
Feels like sardines
Obviously the plane won't be full because they haven't been selling 365 seats in economy.
Delete@12@05 but since there are more economy seats maybe they can sell the tickets for cheaper to achieve the same yield by selling more tickets.
DeleteIt would be nice if you would consider A330-200 vs. A330-300 comparison to start with...?
DeleteWhat a nightmare for AIR SERBIA! Just 12 seats in Business, instead of 21 - I guess Business will be overbooked on many rotations?! Also, tight 3-3-3 seating in Economy and not 2-4-2 as usal. But worse to come, no PTV/IFE - even in BusinessClass no build in entertainment...
ReplyDeleteA nightmare? I think you are overreacting, I call it first world problems about business class issue, especially since JU almost never sells all seats in business.
DeleteHave you flown on JU. Business class on long haul flights, especially to Chicago is always sold out.
DeleteYep. JFK as well.
DeleteSeems strange to be sending Aircraft for maintenance at the busiest time of the year. Obviously this is something unscheduled!
ReplyDeleteThe radio system has a problem. Minor fix required.
DeleteIt's gonna be nice to se another A330 in Air Serbia's fleet
ReplyDelete370 pax to jfk this morning on wamos
ReplyDeleteYes of course ! So believable comment !
DeletePricey business... That one off wet lease will cost them like an entire month of leasing normally their own 330...oh well, hope they source a 3rd one soon.
ReplyDeleteHow do you know that? Are you JU management part?
DeleteOld plane, uncomfortable seats, the A330 seat plan should be 2-4-2 and not 3-3-3 that's likje a box of sardines
ReplyDeleteAlmost the same with Concorde - tiny sardine box, miniature windows, no busines class seats like today, very old plane... yet people wanted to fly Concorde. If Jipi doesn't want to fly Air Serbia to JFK, 370 other people did want to fly.
DeleteMan, you're put to lunch if you're comparing Concorde with A330... Seriously. How old are you? People paid premium for flight time, not because of tiny windows or lack of IFE...
DeleteOld enough to remember being in Concorde. People now fly A330 and that's okay, unless airline from your county doesnt have one so you want to compensate by b**ching about it 🤣
DeleteList of faults on the entire fleet is catastrophic. ARC IFE is not operational also.
ReplyDeleteAlmost all aircraft in the fleet are flying. That's as far from catastophic as possible. In what asylum if inop IFE considered catastrophic?
DeleteIFE is operational on ARC. Only a few screens have issues, mostly bulkhead as pax have damaged them. Same is the case on ARB. But I agree, cabin maintenance in general needs massive improvement.
DeleteDon't they sell spare parts on Amazon? I'm sure they could have kept the plane in BEG and gotten overnight delivery.
ReplyDeleteSo is it just a one time or will be a couple of days?
