Wizz Air to discontinue two Pristina routes

NEWS FLASH

Low cost carrier Wizz Air will discontinue two routes out of Pristina by the end of the month. The budget airline will end operations from Pristina to both Basel and Baden Baden on August 31. Services were maintained three and two times per week respectively. The carrier initially launched operations between Pristina and Basel in November 2018 and to Baden Baden in December 2020. As a result, from September 1, Wizz will maintain five routes out of Pristina, including Dortmund, London Luton, Memmingen, Milan and Vienna.

They discontinue flights to BSL ? :o
With the big diaspora these flights weren’t successful ? So surprised tbh

RE Basel, I think they will focus on SKP and maximize the capacity provided from there

It has nothing to do with SKP I think because there is like trillion flights to Basel, its the airports busiest destination. There is too much competition

few will come for sure if its cheap

Probably has nothing to do with SKP, but this will be nonetheless a win for SKP, especially in light of the upcoming visa liberalization for Kosovar passport holders.

People rather go to travel agencies and book charter flights?

I am not sure of it. Personally I use regularly wizz from PRN and it's always 90-100% busy. Can't understand their logic. I agree also they want to serve KS from SKP as it is close. I don't think its a wise decision with visa lib. behind the door and with huge diaspora. It would be interesting if PRN would attract Ryanair with flights to KS popular destinations (diaspora cities). I don't think there is a fierce competition with La Famiglia charters as they are still more expensive. Probably it has to do with lack of staff. Focusing on TIA, I understand as it is and will be a hot destination, but SKP as a regional LC airport! Also PRN has highest airport taxes, probably that has to do a lot with their decision.

I think they can use their planes in Western Europe and earn much more.

Yes, Western Europe is exactly where Wizz Air has failed. The further East, and away from Ryanair, the better for them.

  6. Anonymous11:14

Wizz has increased PRN to Memmingen from 3 weekly to daily with an A321. They also increased Malpensa-PRN to 4x per week on a A321. Also, my foolish compatriotes still dont like to book online, they’d rather call some random travel agency in kosovo and get scammed every year.

also funny story according to a friend some executives from Trade Air and were at a restaurant in PRN this summer and had a blast drinking lots of Vranac with those travel agencies, i think it was mywings. You can expect a lot more from Trade Air out of PRN.

MyWings scammed ETF, they had to apply the livery, were lead to think that it's a long term lease, only to end it in a few months

Why do Albanians book tickets over random agencies? I am really struggling to understand it.

      because its cheaper.
Without travelagencies, Swiss would ask for prices above 1000 franks for a roundtrip.. because their main sales is focused on stopover flights from US and other destinations. And wizz isn't different.. because of this horrified prices they also went up. Prices are at the moment 400€ Pristina-Vienna. For a lowcost airline that is unacceptable.

    2. Anonymous13:19

those prices are normal for high season as absurd as it sounds.
US passengers are just a drop compared to the sheer volume of Switzerland connections (plus Germany) where those agencies are specialized for.

      Delete
    3. Anonymous16:35

"The sheer volume" is only oneway. Flights are empty exPRN when the school closes in Switzerland. The problem is that even if its a "nonseason" exPRN, Swiss still charges as it is a season.. and Travelagencies at the nonseason offers fare for 20€ just so the seats aren't emty.. On one hand you can justify those prices because touroperator have empty flights on both months.

because serbs can travel without visa. from january you can compare the prices between beg and prn. but if wizz doesnt add flights, the prices will stay high

      @Anon. 12:05
Force of habit I guess (were quite cheaper than OS and others, but that's changing quickly now. Most of the people I know first look at wizz now.

      @Anon. 17:40
same price is from PRN as well and dropping to 80 eur beginning of september.

They wont discontinue them, the tickets arw just removed from sale until they find another jet to operate them instead the tuzla based one. Also the tickets from Basel to Ohrid were removed from sale as of September, i checked yesterday.

no, its end of winter schedule in the case for Ohrid. They were flown with BEG aircraft on some days as far as i know so there might be "finding another jet" as you say or turning it into seasonal but who knows. Its diferent with the two Pristina routes

    2. Anonymous12:27

Yes i was wrong for OHD, but maybe i am right for PRN, we will see what will happen. Also, Malmo - Ohrid will be discontiued. I dont think that nether of these two Ohrid routes will be resumed in summer cuz if u searxh other routes u will find schedule until 7th of April. SKP - Vaxjo is also seadonal but there are flights as od 3rd of April 2024. Idk what is happening

they are flying 10x already. Wizz couldnt tap into the swiss diaspora market surprisingly as someoone above said. They stil have 6-7-8-9-10 daily??? ...charters plus Easyjet which is the elephant in the room

Hahahahahh Wizzair cancelling routes??? What a surprise! :D This airline got REALLY bad and chaotic. Even in the UK it already has lost its reputation. Go to their Facebook page and see the amount of comments of people from all around the world complaining about their cancellations. They launch a "new route", they take your money and then you battle with the customer service for months. In Romania and Bulgaria they have serious problems:

    https://www.romaniajournal.ro/business/romania-complains-about-wizz-air-to-the-european-aviation-safety-agency-due-to-the-canceled-flights/

    https://www.travelnews.bg/bg/news/16916591688815/gva-iziska-ot-wizz-air-plan-s-deystviya-za-otmyanata-na-poleti

Who do they think they are??? This airline is simply not what it used to be........and BiH has been affected a lot as well sadly.

Long time ago I decided I will fly never again with Wizzair. Already 10 years I fly with a stop over mostly in Vienna when I go to Balkan countries. I pay a bit more, but no stress for the same reason you've mentioned.

And i fly with Wizz Air all the time from Skopje and it is perfect. It happend to me a few times the flight to be delayed, but it is normal, people are complaining for no reason. My last flight from Malta was delayed cuz some pax were stuck at passport control and all of us 228 people were waiting in the plane 80 minutes for them. This was not Wizz air's fold, its normal, its happening and will continue to be happening. People are complaining for no reason with out having any knowlage for aviation.

    3. Anonymous21:27

Yes, closing bases with two weeks notification time and cancelling routes by the dozen is no reason to complain about unless you have a deep knowledge of aviation.

      Delete
  12. Yes, what they have done in Bosnia was so douchy. Beyond pathetic. Cutting routes left and right, closing bases and leaving basically without any advance notice, so the airports could prepare to soften the blow.
Hope it comes back at them tenfold, while hoping for B&H to recover.
