NEWS FLASH
Low cost carrier Ryanair will add a new weekly service between Lanzarote on the Canary Islands and Zagreb. Flights will launch on November 4 and operate each Saturday with the 189-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft. It marks the first time Zagreb has been linked with a scheduled air service to the Canary Islands. Further flight details can be viewed here. Tickets are now available for purchase through the airline's website.

DeleteInstead of wondering why no airline wants to enter to the Slovenian market, wonder why Slovenia didn't think and didn't try to make their main airport a hub which will be used by the region. Look at Montenegro, they launched new carrier in a few months, as well as Italy, as well as Czechia, well they didnt launch new airline but many others replaced the traffic left behind, same with Moldova after Wizz Air closed its base, now they have Hi fly and others. No one is going to come and open a new route to Ljubljana if something isnt changed, even the subsidies are not enough. Yes, the airport is slowly recovering BY ITS OWN, which made many many pax to use ZAG, TSF or VCE.

Even if single Croatian passenger tries to fly this route, even if he or she, somehow, by miracle, has a ticket, will be denied boarding, and will not fly, in order not to disturb other only Slovenians on board ☺ On a more serious note, I was expecting Las Palmas or Tenerife, but this one is acceptable as well☺ And one more invitation to all those happy posters who wrote and wrote and wrote when Sofia and Podgorica were discontinued, and who were mostly predicting FR leaving ZAG, tell us, how are you today?

Slovenia did have a hub and had plenty of connections from all over ex-yu, and wider Balkans (Sofia,Tirana,Istanbul) while Adria was around and until corrupt politicians killed it, the same what they are now doing in Croatia with OU. I personally flew from LJU to Skopje, Nis, Belgrade, Frankfurt, Paris, Hurghada and Sharm el Sheik, but lately it's less and less and less....
I know the times of Adria. The thing is that since then, 4 years already the airport is struggling. Even with the last year of Adria, Ljubljana wasnt enough connected to Europe. Nearly all routes that the airline served are restored, just Sofia, Sarajevo and Copenhagen arent. I know in 2019 they discontinued Moscow service and Dusseldorf. Skopje was in same condition after the collapse of Avioimpex and MAT but in 2012 or 11 Wizz opened a base. Low cost or national carrier, the important thing is that there are many routes from Skp now.

DeleteGreat destination during winter timetable in Zagreb. I was on a Canary Islands a few times and sincerely recommend it. Congrats to Ryanair with hope to introduce more routes in the region

ReplyDeleteSo, according to the timetable this is not a flight from ZAG base, but the aircraft is from Lanzarote. So, you have arrive to the island just to sleep, and on the last day you started already in 12.20 :(

DeleteI will not comment JU, their results speak for themselves. I will just slightly correct you about OU/FR comparison. FR close some routes, but then opens new ones. Within three years, they managed to come from zero to almost thirty routes. OU close routes as well, but don't open new ones. Within thirty years (not 3 like FR) they managed, instead of growing, to REDUCE their network to thirteen routes from Zagreb, and about twenty altogether. With huge and immense support of the state and tax payers. If you don't see the difference, you should visit ophthalmologist. For the beginning.

DeleteWhen Croatia suspends a line it is MINUS ONE. When Ryanair suspends three lines it opens four. And I was talking about Ryanair, not their Zagreb base :) I understand that the website focuses on EX YU, makes sense, but you should see broader picture.

ReplyDeleteIt is, however, more visited in winter so we will see how it performs. The western part of the island is amazing but some parts literally are invaded by Brits with their pubs, restaurants, football matches, etc. The capital is much more Spanish. Lanzarote is not as green as Tenerife and not so desertic as Fuerteventura but a very cool island. Not recommended for party people as it is full of old people and more relaxed....
this is great .. in a:cold wet winter.. a week in Lanzarote.. Nice. well done Ryanair. it is:fashionable to hate this airline but they were first LCC from UK.. they forced prices down.. especially from.over expensive British Airways!. I hope it goes well
ReplyDeleteI spent 10 days in Lanzarote this January, flew Nis - Bergamo - Lanzarote for a measly 50e. The island itself is gorgeous and probably the most similar thing to Moon I have ever seen!

What surprised me was the sight of quite a lot of cars with serbian license plates, one even was from Novi Pazar.
Serbian tourists nowadays seem to go much further south than just visiting Istria.
to combat this, OU will add 4 weekly rotations to Vrankvurt and 2 to Dizeldorf.
DeleteNo no no notLufthansa, no Dizeldorf. It should be Minken, Dizeldorf should be reached via Minken, it's pretty much far away to the North and too distant for OU mindset. For everything else I agree : 4 more weekly to Vrankvurt and 2 to Minken in response ☺
DeleteGreat to have direct flights to the Canaries from Croatia. I have been spending my last six winters there, flying back and forth, as well as a lot of friends visiting me. Now this will be so much more convenient.
