NEWS FLASH
Sarajevo Airport welcomed its millionth traveller of the year, achieving the milestone for only the fourth time in its history. The figure was reached around a week behind that of last year. It comes after Wizz Air closed its base at the airport in November of 2022, which has resulted in a decline in passenger numbers during much of this year’s summer season. “This is a clear indication that, with great effort, we managed to largely maintain the volume of passengers from the previous year. We are committed to maintaining our successful operations and achieving sound business results", the airport said in a statement. Last year, Wizz Air had the most available capacity at Sarajevo Airport with 465.444 seats on the market (excludes Wizz Air Abu Dhabi). However, this year, Turkish Airlines is the largest carrier, followed by Austrian Airlines and Pegasus.
Sarajevo Airport’s largest airlines by available seat capacity in 2023
Unfortunate about the decline
ReplyDeleteBut only -3-5% 😉
DeleteJU not even in top 10 for SJJ??? They could have taken advantage of WizzAir's exit but failed to do so.
Deletewow Wizz had a lot of capacity last year
ReplyDeleteTwo planes with three flights a day would add about 600,000, the low-load numbers show. That is, they had 60% occupied seats.
DeleteI'd pick TK, OS, LH over W6 traitors.
Delete+1
DeleteTraitors?? Is it possible you don't understand that you pay for the stability. Wizz is extremely cheap, but that only means they can just pack up and leave whenever they see a cent more of profit elsewhere. TK and OS won't leave but that kind of comfort costs more.
DeleteThis shows how low LF there are flights on Wizz Air from SJJ. Setting up a base in close proximity to TZL was an extremely bad idea. But it was all about subsidies...
ReplyDeleteThey took the money and moved on. Way to go.
Who is driving this growth? Which airlines are adding new frequencies in 2023?
ReplyDeleteStill i think that W6 base in SJJ was complete bullshit!? Most destinations have never been successful by B&H- Beauvais, Eindhoven, Charleroi, Treviso….
ReplyDeleteWhich airlines can we expect in 2024?
ReplyDeleteAir Arabia again?
DeleteAegean to Athens.
Eurowings and Norwegian to Scandinavian countries.
Ryanair?
Jordan Aviation?
I don't think Aegean will return.
DeleteLuxair?
DeleteairBaltic is good option for Scandinavian countries but maybe in 2025.
Aegean will start flying to Skopje on September 2nd
Delete+1
DeleteAthens will be good.
DeleteLF was really low. W6 was competing against itself in the TZL.
ReplyDeleteIn short:
1. BNX is growing a lot with FR and attracts passengers from around TZL (as well as the entire north of the country).
2.W6 was losing out on this but BEG was also picking up passengers. Wizz in TZL had no low goods.
3. They came to SJJ just for the money....then they said "bye"...along with that they killed their base in TZL, at that time there are two losing bases (TZL, SJJ).
4. Finally they decided to close TZL too because they can earn more elsewhere (as well as the fog).
5. So today SJJ is as before (LH, OS, TK, OU, JU), BNX is the second busiest airport, TZL is BNX - in the past.
In general, it is not a disaster that Wizz Air left. Traditional carriers increased frequencies. There may be connections with Germany and Scandinavia. But I would still say that OS, TK, LO, LX, TK responded and increased the frequencies.
DeleteTZL lost more but BNX and BEG will take care.
TZL should attract Trade Air.
DeleteIt will be interesting to see if Ryanair tries again at Tuzla.
Delete
DeleteI honestly think a national carrier would be useful.
3X E190. 2 in SJJ, 1 in TZL and maye for flights to BNX.
From SJJ and TZL to Stockholm, Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Oslo, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Nuremberg, Baden-Baden, Vienna, Geneva, Basel, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich.
It's expensive, but every country should have it. It's useful. See what happened during the pandemic!
DeleteBosnia struggles to plan bus stops lets alone a national airline. The market needs to be free and open and in time LCCs from outside will return properly. The issue are politicians who are frightenly unskilled running the county poorly that has driven wizzair away.
ReplyDeleteThey banished W6. Just you?
DeleteList of pests:
CAA.
Tuzla Airport.
Corruption.
Too many airports in a small country.
Small market.
Without low prices, the market does not work.
And finally W6 left B&H in pursuit of profits elsewhere!
Just they*
DeleteAs soon as there is fog! Go away !
DeleteFrivolous work. It will be funny if the C3 is based on the A320. W6 misses an entire market. Not all flights were losing, but they were lost because there is fog.
DeleteGothenburg, Copenhagen, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Baden-Baden, Hamburg, Nuremberg, Växjö, Malmö must be released.
On TZL with A320*
DeleteW6 are idiots.
DeleteBravo SJJ!
ReplyDeleteReally bravo 👏 After W6, they have connections. TK is here;))
DeleteTK have big network yo all world. Always will be good airline for bosnians and tourists visiting B&H.
DeleteUpravo tako.
DeleteWhere is ASL? One ATR daily?
ReplyDeleteIt is really stupid if the route is not increased for political reasons. It's also full up to BNX. If anyone is reading from JU, please consider additional flights. It would be a good addition after W6 left Tuzla. BTW OU will add additional frequency for a total of 14 weekly flights (all with Dash).
DeleteActually TZL people will come for IST, FRA, SAW, VIE….
DeleteBEG is close for them but yes SJJ people would be happy.
So far I have only used JU from SJJ once. SJJ-BEG-LCA. There was quite a bit of p2p during the flight but I would say the flight was more transfers.
It will be interesting when OU comes with the A220. Most likely then JU will react.
DeleteAlso will be good to see A319 or ERJ-190,195 on the route.
DeleteSarajevo remains an airport for traditional carriers. It is good that for many years we have good carriers such as Lufthansa, Austrian, Croatia Airlines, Air Serbia, besides which they offer key destinations and very good transfers and also often.
ReplyDeleteW6 laundered the money and moved on. Way to go, cheater! Go steal from Saudi Arabia.
+1
DeleteIf Wizz Air found saudi subsidiary and saudia AOC maybe will launch 2-3 destinations.
DeleteBTW cargo maket:
ReplyDeleteIcar Air leases Saab 340 this year SJJ will have more cargo.
What are now cargo carriers?
Maybe only Lipican Aer and Icar Air.
Fleetair have one Saab in SJJ
DeleteEstonian reg. Saab 2000 and HU- reg leased Icar Air Saab 340 and regular ASL Air AtR 42
DeleteSwiss army oprates cargo charters to SJJ ( also and to PRN) using ATR-42 leased from Zimex Aviation.
DeleteCan anyone share an estimate of passenger numbers from the Persian Gulf? I mean the tourists landing at the airport.
ReplyDeleteYou know what we don't have flights to Iran! That would be a good addition.
Delete200-300 000?
DeleteWhich airline currently offers the most destinations from Bosnia and Herzegovina?
ReplyDeleteWizz
DeleteThanks
DeleteWizz Air :
Delete3 destinations from Tuzla
2 destinations from Sarajevo
3 destinations from Banja Luka
Airlines from Turkey and Austria are the top 3 airlines at Sarajevo Airport.
ReplyDeleteAlso Anadolujet is part of TK.
DeleteTurkish Airlines is the leader in Sarajevo, better than W6.
W6 barely flies to Sarajevo, so I don't know why you specifically highlighted Turkish Airlines as being better then them.
DeleteI mean they are reliable superior unlike Wizz Air. They do not cancel and refund on cancellation. Wizz Air took the money and moved on.
Deleteflynas will continue to operate flights in the winter, now i reviews their site. Wizz Air will operate to London-Luton next summer as well.
ReplyDeleteThere were no charter flights to Medina this summer? For Hajj. People probably travel with flynas. It doesn't seem to be used only by Saudis.
Delete2.200 pilgrims traveled to Hajj this year with Jordan Aviation, they used Boeing 767-200 and operated a total of 10 flights each way
DeleteNot via Amman?
DeleteI checked on the sites. Yes, thank you.
