Wizz Air completes Belgrade expansion

Wizz Air completed its summer expansion out of Belgrade yesterday with the introduction of its fifth new service - to Bergamo. The route will be maintained five times per week. The low cost airline had previously introduced flights to Zakynthos, Berlin, Copenhagen and Lisbon, as well as increased frequencies on a number of routes. Furthermore, it based its fourth Airbus A321 aircraft in the Serbian capital. During the upcoming 2023/24 winter season, Wizz Air has 946.688 seats on sale on its Belgrade operations, up 104% on the previous winter, or an additional 482.622 seats.

    Interestingly, their BEG based aircraft are being used to the max! Just for comparison, other bases have more aircraft but fewer flights.

      Looks like Wizz is scared of potential Ryanair expansion at BEG so they are maxing out their BEG potential. Both Wizz and Ryanair will have growth of 400 jets or around 150 mil. pax of pax growth in next 5 years. Basically both airlines are loosing luxury of negotiations around airport tax and government subsidies since they are both outpacing organic European market growth. BGY is FR stamping ground, and there is not a lot of space left for potential FR expansion at BEG.

    5. At the same time their representation office in BEG is closed. Even local phone service is closed. No other way to contact except email. They only exist in Serbia on Apr papers.

      It's possible to see thieir fifth aircraft in Belgrade, in my opinion all their new routes, commenced in 2023, their last expansion, are with good load factor. Intersting is also that they have passengers for all destinations on A321. Maybe we have more dispora, travelling for goal tourism, or maybe serbians trevel more.

      I think you are wrong, as having a car on a Greek island really enhances your stay - or in a lot of cases is a necessity to poorly developed public transport network. While renting with full damage waiver (the only good way to rent a vehicle) can be pricey. So most people go with their cars to i.e. Lefkada.

    7. Who travels to Greece by car?? Belgrade to Athens is over 1000km by road, probably more like 1100km, one way. And there are borders on the way. Means about a 12 hour drive. Then if you go to the islands there's waiting for the ferry and a ferry ride.
      It isn't only cheaper but way more convenient to rent a car or a bike for a day or two on larger islands. On smaller ones all you need is a bicycle.
      Instead of driving around in your car plus there and back... that's like 2500km. Easy.

      And Tirana has a national airline serving 100 destinations? Or 25 other carriers which maintain year round flights? Not to mention that unlike Belgrade, Tirana has removed absolutely all costs to both Wizz Air and Ryanair.

      It had one serving 40 and visa requirments had just been lifted for travel to Europe. Trying to compare it with today's day and age is stupid even for you. Not to mention Wizz has to pay for all services at Belgrade Airport unlike at Tirana where they get everything for free.
