Belgrade Airport to increase fees and launch new incentive scheme

Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport plans to increase its passenger service charge for international travellers and other fees from January 1, 2024 when a new incentive scheme to stimulate the launch of new routes will also come into effect. The airport will increase its passenger service charge for those flying on international routes by 5% from the existing 19.16 euros to 20.18 euros. The service charge for domestic passengers, transfers, as well as the security charge will remain unchanged. Airlines will have to fork out additional funds for the use of the airport’s infrastructure and common use equipment, all of which will also increase by 5%.

The airport decided to drop initial plans to charge a premium to airlines for the use of its infrastructure during peak hours, as well as offer discounts during quieter times of the day. “During consultations with carriers and based on the received feedback on the revised pricelist, it has been decided that increases/discounts shall not be applied to flights during peak/out-of-peak periods so as not to jeopardise the development of the regional hub concept, which incorporates the development of operations to new markets, both in terms of short/medium-haul flights and intercontinental traffic”, the airport explained.

Starting on January 1, Belgrade Airport will also role out a revised incentive policy, replacing the previous one which came into force this April. Airlines introducing new short- or medium-haul routes will be subject to discounts involving passenger service charges for a three-year period and for landings for a period of two years, while carriers launching new long-haul flights will enjoy fee reductions for both over a three-year period. These incentives are only available for the introduction of routes which have not been served from the airport over the past twelve months. “Belgrade Airport strives to effectively adapt to new trends and through its own development stimulate the faster recovery and development of the aviation market. Belgrade Airport’s aim is to, through the new (amended) incentive plan, create conditions for the accelerated recovery of air traffic, continue the development of the regional hub concept and facilitate connections with new markets, both short/medium-haul and intercontinental traffic”, the airport said.

It would be great if air carriers increased their airfares out of BEG for that additional 1€. However, I assume many would complain and increase pricing even more. (All eyes on you, Wizz 😂)

I believe they have some discount on this fee, based on number of passengers and the stationed aircraft. It's gonna increase for them too but less than for Aegean, i.e.

    2. That's fee only on pax. Overall it will be 5%, pax fee is between lowest. Theres handling, landing, infrastructure

Let’s double down on the grandiosity. I’m happy BEG is doing fine! But let’s stay grounded, shall we. All ex-Yu airports are vastly underdeveloped compared to the West.

BEG can compare with SOF, SKG, TIA and other airports which have the same pax numbers now. BEG outplayed ZAG for quite some time now so ZAG should be compared with PRN and SKP imo.

      Delete
    11. Slav.Man17:25

You cannot compare TIA to SOF and BEG. TIA is a limited seasonal destination and more approproate to be compared to SPU or SKG.
ZAG is a unique airport because its the main hub of a country with too many airports and far away from the main seasonal attraction. Croatia as a whole has over 12 million passsangers which is way above Serbia for next few years and many many years ahead of albania.
SOF is an underdeveloped airport with as much potential as BEG so you can compare the two but doesnt have a strong national airline to push it to grow.
BEG is doing well but if you were to compare BEG to actual hubs of the next group of nations being ATH/ OTP / BUD then BEG is the bottom of the list. but could reach 12 million of OTP and BUD in the next 5 years especially if they grow their long haul routes since no one else has long haul routes except ATH.

Hahh people are complaining about an extra 1 euro in current global inflation. I believe they should increase it to 2.50 EUR minimum. I often trave to BEG YYZ to visit my parents and have noticed YUZ went from 25 to 40and people there say no word about it. They just know that is just how works . However on this blog people are miserable about everything.

    4. Anonymous15:13

Indeed, ATH cannot be compared to BEG and that's why it's more expensive. 13.2 for extra Schengen pax - that would be the equivalent of BEG's international flights. Security charge 5. And the Airport Development Fund charge of EUR 12. These are mandatory minimum charges (not counting possible baggage fees and so on). All in all EUR 30.2 per departing pax.

Podrazumeva povecanje usluga i servisa. Niti imao veci broj putnika. Bice ih vise nego duplo od 2027 godine. 🇷🇸✈🌐🛬🇷🇸

Until they open shops/cafes/duty free central area, airport still looks like construction and pretty bare. It should have been done but they seem very slow. Current duty free has a temporary feel to it. Airport is already a bit claustrophobic and opening shops/cafes would make it a bit more airy. I think once they do all that it would look 'complete' inside.

Considering only the inflation effect in the recent period, this increase is actually ridiculously low, in both absolute numbers and in percentage. Airlines as such for that matter have and are increasing average air fares (all over, not specific to BEG) much, much more....I don't see any issues with demand for that matter, so I don't understand negative comments here over this really really (too) marginal increase.

Airport doesn't seem to be in the rush to complete upgrades in order to reap extra income from additional flow of transfer passengers:

The airline plans to promote Belgrade Airport as a non-congested alternative to transfer passengers once construction work at its hub is completed. “Despite the growth we are achieving, the airport is still going through infrastructure upgrades. Hence, at the moment, we are not strongly promoting the seamless hub option as a kind of niche in contrast to the congested hubs. However, once the infrastructure upgrade is finished, we believe that we can achieve a nice symbiosis with the airport where it can be a convenient alternative to the congested hubs, especially for north-south and west-east flows”, Mr Marek noted.

    - Vinci dobije koncesiju i moze da upravlja cene i pri tom dobija subvencije za AirSrbiju (indirektno naravno).
