Ryanair will further grow its presence in Zagreb next year with plans to station a fourth Airbus A320 aircraft in the city, introduce new destinations and increase frequencies on existing services. The carrier has so far filed five new routes from the Croatian capital, including Alicante, Girona and Palma de Mallorca in Spain, Pisa in Italy, as well as Marseille in France, starting March 31, 2024. Further additions, as well as modifications to the planned network are possible at this initial stage. The airline is placing a strong focus on operations between Zagreb and Spain, following the success of other routes including Malaga, which will see frequencies increased next year, as well as the recently introduced Lanzarote route, initially launched as a winter seasonal service, which will now operate year-round. Tickets for the new routes are expected to go on sale in the coming period.
Destination | Launch date | Weekly frequency |
---|---|---|
Palma de Mallorca | 31.03.2024 | 2 |
Marseille | 31.03.2024 | 2 |
Pisa | 31.03.2024 | 2 |
Girona | 01.04.2024 | 2 |
Alicante | 02.04.2024 | 2 |
Ryanair also plans to resume flights from Zagreb to Manchester, Podgorica and Sofia next summer, which were suspended over the winter. Existing routes which will see their frequencies increased compared to the previous summer include Basel (from four weekly to six), Beauvais (two to four), Charleroi (six to seven), Rome Fiumicino (four to five), Gothenburg (two to three), Malta (four to seven), Weeze (three to four), London Stansted (seven to nine), and the abovementioned Malaga (from two weekly flights to four weekly rotations). Routes that operated last summer that are currently not slated in Ryanair’s Zagreb schedule include Brindisi, Bratislava, Memmingen and Hahn, however, changes remain possible with the airline yet to fully finalise its Zagreb summer network.
Ryanair’s Chief Commercial Officer, Jason McGuinness, recently said, “Last year we carried just over 900.000 passengers on our Zagreb flights, this year it will be closer to 1.2 million and the plan is to continue growing in Zagreb. We are boosting connectivity and the economy and driving tourism. It’s all about direct connections. We had close to thirty destinations from Zagreb this summer, 27 to be more precise, and we will try to get that to over thirty for summer 2024”. The carrier currently has three A320 aircraft from its Lauda Europe subsidiary stationed at Croatia’s busiest airport. Based on its current 2024 summer season network, the airline has 29 routes filed to operate out of Zagreb with a total of 99 weekly departures.
Only leisure destinations, wowwwww!!!!! Well done Ryanair 👏 ✔️
ReplyDeleteIt puts Croatia Airlines to shame.
DeleteOU at shame? Seriously? Different company profile, different business model, different everything. You must be kidding!!
Delete@11.23
DeleteProfile: run by political Mafia through appointed uhljebs and aparatchiks
Business model : humiliated servant and pathetic feeder
Everything is diferrent, I fully agree, except the one kidding, being you
According to my info, some other destinations will follow...
DeleteYes, still not finished.
DeleteCroatia Airlines has a business model??
DeleteFeed Lufthansa, feed SWISS, feed Austrian, feed United, feed KLM, feed Air France, feed SAS, fly politicians to Brussels, get PSO money for flights to ZAD, PUY, SPU and DBV, fly to SKP and SJJ to call themselves a regional carrier, and ignore any market opportunities outside of Split so that they can beg for cash. That is the business model.
Deleteits worrying that RyanAir could soon be the biggest airline in Croatia at this rate. Especically if there are any more delays and issues with the A220 fleet and business plan.
DeleteHope OU can stay ahead of Ryanair.
Why? Ryanair flies to places where people want to fly, it provides cheap prices, it brings tourists to Zagreb and it employs people who do actual aviation operative work. Croatia Airlines has a huge number of admin staff who do nothing, only flies to major hubs (which is fine because connectivity is important, but it is not ideal) and it is hugely expensive. Croatia Airlines does not deserve to survive if it sticks to business as usual.
DeleteAbsolutely agree with Anon 20:52! OU has had its chance for years, we've gave them enough money from the state budget. They can go down, as far as I'm concerned.
Delete@slavman
DeleteThe way OU operates, I wouldn't be surprised if Ryanairs expansion triggers another A220 delivery delay.
Spain is obviously working out for them
ReplyDeleteobviously
DeleteCongrats to ZAG, LJU keeps losing.
ReplyDeleteLJU will solve everything with a tiny “national” carrier. Delusional.
Deleteyour comment is delusional. Nobody claims every problem with connectivity will be solved with national carrier. Current status is far, far from optimal.
DeleteFantastic. Bravo SJJ, DBV and especially ZAG. LJU, still snoozing?
ReplyDeleteBased on the timings, seems like early morning will become very busy at ZAG.
ReplyDeleteAmazing news!!!! I can't wait to fly them all for some spring sun!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they will be seasonal or year round
ReplyDeletePMI, GRO are most likely to remain seasonal. ALC can also be visited in winter, but if you just fancy warm, winter weather without going to the beach. AGP is much more interesting. Both cities are nothing special, but they have many activities around to be done.
DeleteI love Malaga and its surroundings and have been there three times. What is Alicante like and what is recommended in the area?
DeleteAlicante has much better beaches than Málaga. Benidorm is the "cheap massive tourism resort" but definitely try Calp, Xabia and Denia. As well as Altea. Beware, Benidorm is full of English people both tourists and residents. Altea is more Norwegian.
DeleteHvala!
DeleteBenidorm is like Sanremo in Italy and Opatija in Croatia. Place of festival hold for picking songs that will represent Spain, Italy and Croatia on the Eurovision. 😃
DeleteWow wouldn't have guessed these routes but good choices
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteNice!!
ReplyDeleteInterestingly none from ZAG's connecting capital city incentive model
ReplyDeleteYet. Maybe they add some more routes. It says in the article network is still not fully finalised
DeleteWith the frequency growth and these five routes it is unrealistic to expect they can add more with one additional plane.
Delete"The airline is placing a strong focus on operations between Zagreb and Spain, following the success of other routes including Malaga, which will see frequencies increased next year"
ReplyDelete"and the abovementioned Malaga (from two weekly flights to four weekly rotations)"
Just, wow! AGP is currently booming as an airport and so far has welcomed 20 million passengers, they already had their first transatlantic flight to New York. It is indeed a destination you can go anytime as the weather is suitable. Not only, but in the area there is just simply a lot to see and do.
It is indeed fantastic news for ZAG that leisure destinations are getting more popular. Girona also is a fantastic addition to the Costa Brava and amazing cities such as Tossa and Cadaquès. Wine routes, hiking. This part of Catalonia is quite green and nice as well and you avoid all the huge traffic in BCN.
It seems that FR are really focused on Croatia at the moment already having 3 bases there and now increasing ZAG. Not being Croatian, really happy for ZAG. It is now turn for LJU to catch up similar to many EU capitals.
NOT FANCY AS DUBROVNIK, LOL!
DeleteNot surprised that leisure routes ae working out. It seems to be working everywhere
ReplyDeleteJust look at JU and learn.
DeleteNice to see some out of the box routes
ReplyDeleteActually all of them make sense to me
DeleteBerlin and Stockholm would have made more sense! Girona makes a lot of sense because of all the charters and Palma is famous but Pisa is so close to Rome and Alicante and Marseilles don't seem to be standard Croatian holiday destinations
DeleteThere is simply not enough demand for wither BER or Stockholm, which has been shown time and again by airlines failing on these two routes.
DeleteCroatia Airlines fails at everything so it is not a good source of data for analysis.
DeleteBerlin and Prague will be announced soon!
DeleteIf so, with Prague and Berlin in addition to those announced today with the fourth aircraft, I expect Stockholm, Edinburgh, Las Palmas, Marrakesh, Amman, Vilnius, Riga, Bucharest, Catania, and domestic ZAG - DBV with the fifth in 2025
DeleteInteresantno! Could work. I have doubts about Amman, risky in this times. Also Vilnius, but why not. What about Faro?
DeleteGreat additions
ReplyDeleteThey are spreading a lot in the Balkans, hopefully they will open a base in SKP soon
ReplyDeleteIf they open a base Wizz Air will become angry and cut some routes.
DeleteAnd let FR get ahead of them? No chance
DeleteMallorca definitely… it will be used by slovenians and austrians 4 sure
ReplyDeleteAll routes that could have been launched by Croatia Airlines
ReplyDeleteThey're main focus is FRA and MUC which they serve to death from ZAG, so they have nothing more to add
DeleteThe way things are going, FR will soon overtake OU in Zagreb.
DeleteThey only have themselves to blame really.
DeleteSoon, when exactly? Do you actually have anything smart to say or you just are guessing for the sake of it?
DeleteUnfortunately Croatia Airlines today is not a company that lives in reality. They are really a major embarrassment of a company and in my opinion, are a beacon of everything that is wrong with Croatia with "party appointed" management who show no initiative and are have zero accountability for all the financial failures the airline has had.
DeleteI always thought the airline would grow as Croatia did and take advantage of the momentum of the booming tourism industry. But instead they have aloud countless amounts of great business opportunities to really just go by with zero attempt to take a share in any of it. I really think those who manage the airline have zero idea of what a good business should look like and are only there for personal gain.
Sad that Zagreb and Croatia are full of young entrepreneurial talent, none of which seems to have themselves at OU.
I used to always look forward to flying OU when traveling to Croatia. No I find myself avoiding them.
Actually everything he said was smart and logical. You really think that OU will remain the largest airline in ZAG with 13 destinations? Its a shame that they arent the biggest airline in the whole country, but now they will even lose it in ZAG.
DeleteI avoid them too because the price is just too high. 500 euros to fly from Frankfurt to Zagreb?! 400 pounds from Heathrow to Zagreb?? 50 euros for Zagreb-Pula?? Insane prices. It is like they do not want customers.
Deletethey have aloud countless amounts of great business
DeleteThey have (let) countless amounts of great business.... (spell and grammar correction)
Bravo Hrvatska!
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for Berlin but happy with these too.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about Berlin! ;)
DeleteClearly aimed at local vacation travellers.
ReplyDeleteImpressive
ReplyDeleteNice, Could ZAG reach 4.5 million passengers next year?
ReplyDeleteDepending on new routes and existing route increases that should be announced in next month.
DeleteAlso daily Malta and 9 weekly London is impressive.
ReplyDeleteOU made a big mistake selling 5 of it's Heathrow slots.
DeleteIt was bound to come back to bite them one day.
DeleteHas OU ever done anything but big mistake? The last one being single type fleet...
DeleteGood development.
ReplyDeleteI'm very pleasantly surprised by the choice of routes. This should boost passenger numbers at Zagreb and generate more interest in travel. Good work.
ReplyDeleteAgree. The biggest benefit of Ryanair's base is that more and more people are going on short weekend breaks and travelling a lot more.
DeleteNice! Hope they become bookable soon.
ReplyDeleteIt kind of makes you wonder where was Croatia Airlines? Why didn't it start any of these routes 4 or 5 years ago.
ReplyDeleteCroatia Airlines had 30 years to launch leisure routes. Didn't cross their mind.
DeleteHopefully OU will launch something new too
Delete^ Don't hold your breath.
DeleteWaiting for OU's response lol.
ReplyDeleteThey are being hit on all sides - coast, main home base and even feeding markets like SJJ.
DeleteBut A220...
DeleteAnd it will be used mostly by Croatians belive it or not!
ReplyDeleteOUch! We missed it again
ReplyDeleteHahahahahahahaha, good one, OUch!!! I like it 😆
DeleteNice one :)
Deletenot bad at all
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit surprise that all of them are so leisure focued
ReplyDelete*surprised
DeleteIf you look at the last 5 or so routes they added out of Zagreb all were leisure - Lanzarote, Greek islands, Brindisi... Obviously a segment that is working best for them from/to ZAG.
DeleteBrindisi has been discontinued.
DeleteAnd there are many new routs to the Mediterranean after Brindisi.
DeleteAll new routes in Southwestern Europe!
ReplyDeleteI think this is the first unserved Italian route to be launched in a very long time from ZAG. Nice to see.
ReplyDeleteRyanair literally launched Brindisi, Rome, Bergamo and Naples, and all of these were unserved.
DeleteRome is served by OU. You are clueless.
DeleteVia Split for 30 years. You would think they would have started nonstop flights. And you might want to tone it down with your rudeness.
Delete@12:45 it does not count. Up until this year passengers had to exit the plane in SPU or DBV, go through passport control and security control, wait for boarding again, etc etc. It was basically a connecting flight.
DeleteI'm amazed that Croatia Airlines in 30+ years has not thought of starting a nonstop flight to Rome which is one of Europe's biggest airports.
DeleteWell done!
ReplyDeleteNo, com'n, today's article must be some mistake. You know very well there is no demand of any kind in ZAG, Ryanair is leaving ZAG very soon, Croatians don't travel abroad, especially by plane, and ZAG manages to survive only with Slovenian passengers, otherwise it would be shut down long ago 😆
ReplyDeleteAnd of course "Croatians don't travel".
ReplyDeleteRemember one analyst talking couple of years ago about ZAG not having many international leisure destinations due to ZAG holidaymakers preference to spend vacations within Croatia. Good for Ryanair for not listening.
DeleteBut that is true - people in Zagreb were not really travelling outside of Croatia for their summer holidays. Now that prices in Croatia have skyrocketted, they are using Ryanair as an alternative. It is cheaper to fly to Malaga and spend a week in a hotel there than to drive to Split and spend a week in a hotel there. And there is nothing wrong with that. Everyone benefits!
DeleteAnonymous 12:57 plus you see the world and you are not always stuck in Dalmatia.
DeleteI know a few people who work in the hotel sector in Croatia. After the tourism season is over, many go on "work seminars" which are basically work holiday (perk of the job type of thing) and always seem to be at some tourist hotspot. Some I know are even going to Bali early next year. This could be a reason some of these new services are so popular.
DeleteAlso the renovations, the financials, the meetings with suppliers, the audits etc all take place in the winter. The idea that people do nothing in the winter is laughable. Summer is when the operational work happens.
DeleteThey dont travel that much compared to others in eu. U can google and see the data. The point is zagreb was underserved. So for as much as croatians travel 2 times per week will be enough
DeleteJasmineeeeeee!!! Dobro jutro! Dje si? Je l'se ispila kahva? Aj Bogu hvala sutra vikend. A brzo ce i pemzija...
ReplyDeleteWhere do you see these routes? Theyre not on Ryanair's site.
ReplyDelete"Tickets for the new routes are expected to go on sale in the coming period."
DeleteInteresting that Girona seems to be operated by a non-Zagreb based aircraft.
ReplyDeleteThat is the case with a lot of the routes. Some are a mix, some are Zagreb-only but some are other bases only.
DeletePeople here are delisional. When something new is happening in ZAG, then its because of Slovenians, but when they want new routes then they say that nobody goes to ZAG so there is demand from LJU. Make your decision, its eather that or this.
ReplyDeleteWho cares? I am from Zagreb and I do not care about these comments. They just make me laugh, they do not bother me. In any case, it's great that Slovenes have the option to fly for cheap to all these holiday destinations even if it is from Zagreb.
ReplyDeleteVery nice for Zagreb! And all these Spanish, French and Italian cities are Schengen flights. So flight from Zagreb to Alicante is like flight from Zagreb to Split. Without any border controls, waiting, without roaming and with the same currency euro. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest it does not make much of a difference. Zagreb Airport's passport control was always well staffed and landing in Zagreb was straightforward. I never waited more than a few minutes.
DeleteI don't care how it was before. Now is beautiful feeling that you know when you are in Malaga you are like in Split. Without any passports, without roaming and with same currency (euro). 🌞
DeleteSpain is generally affordable as a destination. Food is inexpensive, supermarkets have good quality food. Infrastructure is very good as well. BUT, Mallorca became expensive because of the German invasion and it so far handled a whopping 30 million passengers from its airport. There are at least 10 daily flights to Barcelona because the distance is very short.
DeleteAlicante has a much lower class type of tourists but the weather is better and warmer. In Mallorca it gets really windy in winter while Alicante remains relatively warm.
Alicante is great destination! Mallorca as well.
DeleteAlicante is full of Brits and so it is really not a great holiday spot.
Delete16:59, Data says there are around 420 thousand Brits in Spain, but this number is definitely higher. You just need to visit places like Benidorm, Málaga or Lanzarote and you will immediately feel it. But, yes. Alicante is a pretty cool destination. The city is nothing special, but very well connected to the rest of the surroundings via train and often used as an alternative airport to Valencia, which feels way much urban. The choice of Ryanair destinations from ZAG this time is simply amazing.
DeleteYes, Zagreb has great destinations. Croats obviously love Spain! :)
DeleteAlicante airport is the main airport of Valencia Region. While both of them have about 3 million people around, Alicante is much more touristic than Valencia. In Alicante there are low class places but high class spots like Altea, Jávea.
DeleteHere in Alicante Zagreb will be our first route ever to an ex-yu country and I hope that Air Serbia is due to announce soon BEG-ALC for next summer
ReplyDeleteI would prefer them to increase frequencies instead of opening new routes..
DeleteThey literally are
DeleteNot to forget that more and more Spaniards are discovering Croatia. Just look at Iberia's growth over the last few years
ReplyDeleteAll wrong. Everyone from Slovenia uses LJU only. Never ZAG, VCE, TRS... only LJU. According to Analitičar and his bot friend half of LJU charters are used by Croats LOL!
ReplyDeleteWhy are u all so triggered by the comment lol chill
ReplyDeleteI want Prague!! :) Come on, Ryanair.
ReplyDeletePrague would be great!
