NEWS FLASH
The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted a motion yesterday to suspend the passenger departure tax at the country’s commercial airports from January 1, 2024, which will reduce costs for airlines. The tax, which has only ever been fully enforced for carriers operating out of Sarajevo Airport but is supposed to be applied at all of the country’s commercial airports, has been seen as a deterrent for airlines, especially low cost carriers. Earlier this year, Ryanair discontinued operations out of Tuzla when the airport was pressured to start applying the tax by the Bosnia and Herzegovina Directorate for Civil Aviation. The departure tax, which amounts to 1.5 euros per passenger, will be suspended for at least one year. “This way we are encouraging foreign carriers to grow their presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina and launch new services from Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Tuzla and Mostar, all with the aim of increasing passenger numbers”, Edin Forto, the Minister for Communication and Traffic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said.
Seems like a desperate shot, considering Bosnia's finances aren't doing too hot. Hopefully, this ends up doing something good for their air connectivity
ReplyDeleteOvo je dobra odluka! BiH kao mala zemlja, ima tri funkcionirajuca aerodroma. Svaki detalj igra ulogu u povecsnju broja putnika.
DeleteИма 4 аеродрома
DeleteMostar nema redovne letove
Delete"Bosnia's finances aren't doing too hot" - based on what, country is not in recession, the foreign debt is one of the lowest and decreasing, GDP growing steady?!
Delete@16.01. Ima - Croatia Airlines.
DeleteGreat news. I hope to se more Air carriers flying to and from BiH airports
DeleteRyanair is unlikely to be looking to return to TZL, also Wizz Air to re-open a base….
ReplyDeleteBTW Ryanair have added flights to SJJ-SKG but not for sale yet. Interesting!
If they come back with based planes in SJJ or TZL again, it will be very ugly.... One time come, one time goodbye....
Delete...wizz^
DeleteWizz will not open a base in the near future thats 1000% sure. Maybe the last hope is just Ryanair with some routes...
DeleteRyanair are still loading their fares and still launching new destinations. Not typical for them to be that late, guess because of the delivery and staff issues. Most airlines are experiencing those problems especially the bigger ones.
DeleteSo this is how Bosnia think will make airlines decision to come and fly from Bosnia , I think this is not a good solution and option , this will still not make airlines to come there. Very very bad political move. Better finance routes with low cost like most of airports do with Wizz and Ryaniar , but the bad thing is that even one Wizz dont want to fly from Bosnia , that saying how bad the situation is...
ReplyDeleteLol Wizz Air abolished their base in Tuzla due to different reasons but never stopped flying plus will fly from SJJ from March onwards
DeleteI think there’s something more serious if €1.50 is causing airlines not to fly there…
ReplyDeleteMultiplied by... what...?
DeleteIf tickets are 20 euros then a 1.5 euro tax is a lot
Deletein other words: they either let them fly for free or sponsor them and hiding the sum from the public
