Swiss to boost Ljubljana service

NEWS FLASH

Swiss International Air Lines will increase frequencies on its Zurich - Ljubljana service during the 2024 summer season. Starting March 31, the carrier plans to operate double daily flights between the two cities, up from ten weekly during the 2023 summer. Equipment will vary throughout next year with A220s, A320s, A320neos, E190s and E190 E2s all scheduled on the route, with the latter two operated by Helvetic Airways on Swiss’ behalf. Swiss handled 81.963 passengers on its Ljubljana service during the January - October period, with an average cabin load factor of close to 80%. Passenger numbers are up 10.7% on the same period in 2019.

Perfect, what they need is 7am departure similar to what Lufthansa has, AirFrance moved their 2nd daily flight too, so we desperately need at least 2 departures at around 7

The schedule is not great though, a morning and an evening flight would be ideal…

it was double daily in Adria days... I agree it is better than nothing, but it is still very low compared to what it was before. While on the other hand Zurich is way better than what it was.

They could easily launch Geneva with A220-100 or E190 like two or three weekly…

no demand to Geneva. and they're well covered with transfer via ZRH.

In 2019 GVA had more indirect passengers from LJU than RIX, LUX.. so much for "no demand".

    3. Anonymous16:41

GVA demand is strong and consistent from LJU.

As I said in previous article, on average around 4000 seats a week during summer. Even if there are on average around 3500 seats a week during whole year that is more than 180 000 seats during whole year and with 80% LF is like 150 000 passengers a year.

Agree, but don't you think it's a bit odd. I understand Serbian diaspora in Switzerland, but who travels from Slovenia to Switzerland? How do we know how many people would travel from ZAG to Zurich or Geneva?

Berlin has never worked from LJU, hence the lack of flights.

EasyJet operated BER-LJU for three years (even resumed it in summer 2020 during pandemic). I guess it was just for fun and they were losing money during all these years. Mentioning LJU and EasyJet, it is sad that it went from airline with most capacity at the airport to not even top 10. Bravo Fraport!
