NEWS FLASH
The Serbian Interior Ministry has announced that passport eGates for automated border control, which will be installed at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, have been procurred. The Ministry noted the equipment should be operational by June of this year, with ten eGates for departing and arriving passengers. The new eGates will complement manual passport control. eGates usually involve a two-step process. Passengers first scan their passport after which the first gate opens. The traveller’s photo is then taken for facial recognition, after which a second gate is opened, and the passenger can continue onwards with their journey. The entire process usually takes under a minute.
Will this system work for Serbian passport holders only?
ReplyDeleteMost probably, but even that will be a good start. The current manual system has its choke points, so to speak. EU passports will probably be added later on, in which case Serbian passports will likely be able to use eGates at EU airports now that the legislative has been adjusted, finally
DeleteI have used the some sort of eGates system at the Paris airport with Serbian passport in December 2023.
DeleteHope that will function better then the previous one
ReplyDeleteI only used the old system three times before it was decommissioned. I think this one will be actually in use for long time.
DeleteI used previous system few times and it was a blessing from heaven.
DeleteTook 15 seconds.
But it worked very short period of time
Does anyone know the minimum age?
ReplyDeleteIt depends on the country. Some countries (UK) it is 10 years and over, in some it is 13, in others 16. It depends on what Serbia put in its legislation.
DeleteI mean...its NICE that they will put eGates...but really? 10? So, 5 for arrivals and 5 for departures?
ReplyDeleteSo, 5? Five eGates? And thats it? I mean, it will NOT help a lot. Especially if it really takes 60 seconds to process one person
It days under a minute. It says ten gates on arrival and departure.
Delete5 gates x 45 seconds means that you can process an extra 400 passengers per hour in each direction. That's almost three Airbuses' worth of passengers every hour. A more than decent improvement.
DeleteOvo je trebalo da se instalira do kraja 2023.godine, čisto da se podsetimo
ReplyDeleteĆe bude
DeleteEU was supposed to implement ETIAS in 2020, 2022, 2023, now pushed to 2025. čisto da se podsetimo
DeleteGreat that these are being added, lines are starting to become a bit long when departing and i imagine this will alleviate the congestion a bit during the summer months.
