Violent incident rocks Skopje air traffic control

NEWS FLASH

An on-duty air traffic controller at Skopje Airport was beaten last Thursday after several people entered M-NAV’s air traffic controller centre without authorisation. As the incident took place, 36 aircraft were being supervised by the air traffic provider. The vehicles with the attackers were not stopped by the security agency that was hired to protect the perimeter of the centre, nor by M-NAV’s security in the building itself. There were reportedly up to eight people involved in the incident, with four of them now detained. Skopje Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation. The culprits are believed to be activists of one of the ruling parties in the country, the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI). The incident is the culmination of days of tensions at M-NAV, where DUI-appointed managers have been trying to manipulate the hiring process in order to appoint unqualified party members to posts inside the company.

The leader of the union representing the nation's air traffic controllers, Aleksandar Tasevski, has accused the DUI-appointed directors, Fahrudin Memedi and Hasim Deari, of engaging in corruption and misconduct during the hiring process and in connection with public contracts. Among the three M-NAV directors, the third, Ljube Stamenskovski, resigned ten days ago in protest against nepotism and corruption within the air service provider. In response to the allegations, Memedi and Deari had the police summon Tasevski, citing alleged threats. The union has issued a warning that it will initiate a strike, leading to the closure of the country's airspace on January 10, unless the government addresses the issues within M-NAV. Meanwhile, the Macedonian government is expected to announce the dismissal of the entire management of M-NAV today.

This is why we need the death penalty. They endangered thousands of lives that were in those 36 flights that were being supervised. These people need to be mercilessly punished.

Macedonian government with SDSM and DUI offers a lot of job a vacancies with positive discrimination. The sad thing is it’s in the application( +1 if you Albanian but also +1 if you are Macedonian) they don’t even hide it. These are not the most serious jobs. However DUI really pushes to get Albanians employed everywhere on high functions even if these Albanians are not qualified. You can’t be in one week an air traffic controller. I am really disappointed this terror attack happened. The guy who did this should get 30 years prison.

An eye for an eye and soon, we'll all be blind. The death penalty is not the solution.

Social collapse? Hardly. These are very old and rich nations. Sure, they have their problems, but they have been around for a very long time. They are used to challenges and always find ways to navigate them. None of which can ever be said about ex-Yu countries.

Accurate assessment of symptoms, but wrong therapy. Simply, these two nations do not want and cannot live together. Huge elephant in the room that we all are pretending not to see. That has to be resolved.

This is just another reason why you should leave this country and never ever return! Sramota for everyone who allowed this to happen! But this didnt surprise me, at the end, what do you expect from people who dont have brain? They dont even understand what they did and how strict and secure this place has to be, in normal country these people whould have been killed in the first minute of the incident.

Fun fact. The attacker, prosecutor, judge and the rest are all from the same party! They are all from DUI, so we know what's going to happen :). Кадија те тужи, кадија те суди!

and more fun facts: the attack actually happened because Albanian employees of M-NAV solidirized with their Macedonian colleagues which was too much for the mafia clan DUI

Whether they are Macedonian or Albanian doesn't make any sense. The country itself has built such a negative reputation during the last decade or 2. This incident should never happen in a European country....

After the attackers leave , then employess in M-nav call police , everything is recorced on camera all faces are recognazible for the police. But judge say there is not enough evidence to put them in jail , and guess he is Albanian judge from DUI :))) and the directors of M-nav are DUI , the security is also albanians who of course did not react of the attack andnot safe the employees , they just watch ...in normal country this will not happen , thats why we Macedonians leave country ,not because of money , because of no laws.

Sounds like a Western movie from the 60s, tbh. How come such a thing be permitted in a country pretending to become an EU member and a member of NATO?
As someone else mentioned above, Ryanair have a very good reason to ditch SKP in the future due to safety concerns, because what happened is just a dangerous game and allowed to take place.
This incident kinda reminders of the Bashkirian Airlines incident with the air-traffic controller in the 2002 Überlingen mid-air collision.
What a national embarrassament and utter uncomfortable situation........
