A Wizz Air Airbus A320 aircraft, scheduled to operate a flight between Belgrade and Barcelona this evening, was evacuated near the runway in the Serbian capital via the emergency slides after an anonymous threat was called in of a bomb on board as the jet began its take-off preparations (pictured). All passengers were safely evacuated, after which police and emergency services scanned the aircraft and surrounding area. In a statement, Wizz Air said, “Wizz Air confirms that flight 4115 from Belgrade to Barcelona on February 29 received an anonymous threat of an explosive device on the aircraft as it was preparing for departure. The aircraft immediately returned to a remote location at Belgrade Airport where all passengers were safely evacuated. Passengers have been transferred to the terminal and provided with refreshments. The authorities are undertaking necessary checks in line with protocol. The safety of passengers and crew is of Wizz Air’s utmost priority”.
A number of inbound flights were diverted to nearby airports as Belgrade Airport was closed for several hours. Operations resumed at 22.30 CET. In 2022 and 2023, Belgrade Airport was on the receiving end of a spate of false bomb threats.
BEG closed until 2300UTC.
ReplyDelete5 flights got diverted to my home airport, TSR
DeleteAby info which departures are affected?
DeleteJust CPH with Wizz was cancelled
DeleteAnd just new info arrived! Opening of airport is @2130UTC.
ReplyDeleteWhoever did it needs life sentence
ReplyDelete100% agree.
DeleteJust like in some countries where using a fake gun in a robbery is punishable the same as using a real gun, they should change the law in Serbia so that a fake bomb threat is the same as a real bomb threat.
My take off in AMS delayed due to the situaion.
ReplyDeleteMy air serbian flight is delayed from vienna for this and im supposed to get on a connecting flight to cyprus in an hour🥲
DeleteThe connecting flight to Cyprus will be delayed too. Don't worry, you will make it.
DeleteHello from Wizzair flight from Malta. We are just said we'll be waiting at the Malta airport further 30 minutes for the information if we can land to BEG or not.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile we're still waiting inside the plane at MLA, we were supposed to take off at 21:25. No further information were given yet.
DeleteSlides for bomb threat? Are they insane? Noone does that ever. Crew made a mess and HUGE financial loss for Wizz as one slide is very expensive to repack and repairn 10-30 000 euros! Bomb threat is always treated with caution but no need for evacuation via slides as there is no way for a bomb to be placed on board, at least in Europe. It's always via stairs, as we saw with pathetic threats for Air Serbia a year ago.
ReplyDeleteIt is not true regarding stairs.Read an article of wizz air bomb treat case in Budapest. They evacuated via slides
DeleteIf airport can't provide stairs in reasonable time, you do it via slides. You don't know if bomb threat is real or not, usually the ones with very good credibility are the ones pilots get notified with. GooIf bomb really trips off, good luck with explaining why haven't you used the slides (because you wanted to save the cost for the company).
DeleteThey evacuated after the bomb threat in Budapest because an idiot policeman directed the aircraft to a remote area (a taxiway) which the ground handlers could not reach with stairs and buses. No one could tell the crew how much time they need to bring buses, he got angry and decided to go pop. It was heaps of incompetence from all sides.
DeleteWell this aircraft was also on a taxiway and busses can't reach it.
DeleteNot all diverted to TSR, flight from Lisbon diverted to Zagreb
ReplyDeleteFZ is diverted to Sofia.
ReplyDeleteFlight 18:45 Zagreb-Belgrade. As the Belgrade airport was closed we landed at the Timisoara airport. Already 45’ till now and still awaiting for news.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to my city, you’re not the only flight diverted
DeleteBelgrade has really been having an unfortunate streaks of events. Godspeed to all the innocent involved
ReplyDeleteStuff here at Timisoara aren’t going well, all of the flights keep on extending departure time, hope everything is ok.
DeleteOne more reason there should have been a separate, independent runway.
DeleteLOL
DeleteShutting down an airport for hours costs everyone a lot of money, should be pretty harsh consequences for whoever did it
ReplyDeleteNothing will happen
DeleteOuch!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the forward service door the slide didn't deploy on that Wizz A320
ReplyDeletePoor Serbia has bad luck this year in aviation this year :( Last year it was with the trains incidents.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the Balkans, my friend. We do not live....we survive and this is why we are disappearing. Warm and solidarity greeting fom Sofia. Here we still have the сръбска скара quite present in many restaurants and love your music a lot. We fight a lot, but still consider you close even if you do not believe it. Our culture, religion, customs are all the same. Forget about the crazy uneducated nationalists. Sadly, we lost all our intelligent people for obvious reasons.
May God be with you this year. Also read about the stupid bomb threats in Macedonia last year. Until when are we going to suffer in this region?
Greetings from a Serb that has many Bulgarian friends in Berlin where i live !!
