Ryanair upgrades Zagreb and Sarajevo operations

NEWS FLASH

Low cost carrier Ryanair has increased frequencies and extended operations on one of its new destinations each from Zagreb and Sarajevo respectively. The budget carrier will increase frequencies on its new flights between Girona in Spain and Zagreb from two to three weekly rotations starting July 5, until the end of the summer season in late October. The new route itself will be inaugurated on April 1. On the other hand, Ryanair’s new seasonal service between Thessaloniki and Sarajevo, which launches on July 3, has been extended by a month and will now run twice per week until September 29 instead of the initially planned August 28.

Good news. Both routes must be selling well.

Yes, I was surprised by the SJJ-SKG route at first but as usual the airline route planning department knows a whole lot more than me about the potential of such a city pair.

The reason why they increase Girona is probably because Vueling is no longer flying to BCN-ZAG.

OU is starting it again this summer so it's going to be interesting to see if there's a market for both after several years with no flights to the area. I believe there is, we'll see.

OU also does charters to Girona every year. It's one of their top charter routes actually!

Let's see what happens with Iberia. Their planned A321s to ZAG were removed and they have A320s now. First A321 is planned for the second half of July. I am not surprised since there is less need for transfers in MAD with so many new non stop flights from ZAG.

The A321 was never planned for Q2

It might seem good short term having Ryanair, but long-term they are doing damage to European Aviation. Mark my words in 20 years time you will regret letting Ryanair in!

They have been here for almost 30 years, so that's gonna be 50 years of their operations. More than enough time for others to respond. If they can't do it in half a century that's not Ryan's fault. Specially having in mind that they are not favorites of any government or some other super entity.

yepp..just look at all the blackmailing they did in AHO. Everybody was happy at first (early 2000s) because a lot of cheapskates from northern europe were coming in waves..Once they started threatening to close routes if there were not cheaper airport fees inflow of tourists reduced, and the airport was almost empty, as it continues to be today

    3. Anonymous12:41

But that's how everyone conducts business. That's not a threat, that's bettering your own position and that almost always means taking market share from your competitors. No one is obliged to accept Ryan's terms; no other entity urges airports to work with Ryanair.
The blackmailing, as you call it, was once a thing with Wizz in Belgrade, if you remember, but it's up to airport to decide what's best for them. And if they decide to lower fees for Ryanair that's their decission, not Ryanair's. So if you think that situation in European aviation is dire that's because of all those entities accepting crazy terms so that they can have something that, in normal curcemnctances, they wouldn't have.

I believe this shady scheme of going where some airport gives you better conditions creates unfair competition in the market. Also, ryan being based in Ireland makes a lot of financial tricks that allow company to pay less taxes than other carriers based in EU. One thing is bettering your own position and another one is to compete unfairly, which is what that company does routinely.

Which other carriers? One of tens who registered aircrafts in Malta? Eurowings flies with Maltese registrations. So, excuse me, but Ryanair brought opportunities for young people to travel. Something NONE of the legacy carriers can be proud of. I flew yesterday ZAG-CRL, half of the cabin young tourists from France and Belgium. If there would not be Ryanair, you think they would come with Croatia? No, they would not. So for few Euros per pax what Ryanair gets, they bring much much more.

And how does success of airports like BGY, CRL and similar goes with your theories? Ryanair does not make their revenue from the tickets sale. Once airports realize how much they can make apart from the tax, they should come up with strategies and shine!

it is not a civil right to fly Stansted to Faro for 10 euros or Belgrade-Rome for 15..same reason why many cities in Europe are getting their city center completely deserted and full only of pub/bars and restaurant and making life miserable for the people living there for more than one airBnB stay.

Is that supposed to be Ryanair's fault?

Just look at BUD which relies on LCCs, they are so successful that they had to be re-nationalixed.

BUD is indeed so successfuly that the greedy government will "re-nationalize" it on huge taxpayer money to use it as a cash cow.

Too short for Ryanair, they can't sell you anything for half an hour and they obviously can't have expensive tickets. Even TGD is weird, I would like to see their income structure for ZAG-TGD flights...

Anon 1341 - Can you please tell me why would Aegean start this route which Croatia runs almost 30 years. I don't think it's necessary.

ULCC would be good, cause it would push prices down.

    4. Anonymous13:57

Anon 1254 - I don't think you know much about cost structure if you believe that Ryanair covers costs with their onboard sales. On intra-Italy flights sales stands between 0 and 50eur per sector, but they still fly. Same would be for SJJ-BEG. Bus is 50eur one way. They can do the same price and make a nice money there.
