Chivoine Rem (pictured) has been appointed the new CEO of Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport after its current head, Francois Berisot, was named the CEO of Budapest Airport, which
VINCI recently acquired a stake in. Mr Rem will formally take over his new position in the coming weeks. He was previously the CEO of Rennes Bretagne Airport in northwestern France and also managed the airport in Toulon in the past. “I am delighted to be coming to Belgrade and join the successful transformation of Nikola Tesla Airport. We will continue to focus on making the airport a model in the region for growth, efficiency, customer experience and sustainability. I look forward to meeting the teams and all stakeholders involved in the operation of the airport”, Mr Rem said.
It is really funny because new CEO will have a first real tough job as all the previous were on a small airports. May the God help us all

DeleteWhat did you expect a seasoned CEO?...This might actually be a good thing, he's young, ambitious, upcoming and he'll want to prove himself. Maybe it's going to be better then a seasoned CEO who doesn't give a damn anymore and looks for CEO perks only.

The only good news is that Berisot wasn't any good anyway and that he won't be missed.
However that shows clearly where Vinci is placing its priorities.
This concession should be cancelled due to conflict of interest.
Ex-YU countries are and always have been "learning grounds" for aspiring foreign managers, as anyone working for any multinational in Belgrade will confirm.

DeleteWell about Babett Stapell and whole Lju situation…her and Fraport are doing a lot of good things when it comes to the airport itself as it looks really good, its constantly getting upgraded with some stuff and everything but sadly its the last thing on their mind to attract some new carriers to fly to Lju, which should be their number one priority as the airport lacks flights.

DeleteBEG is not special. Not that different from any high-growth airport in a growing economy. He looks like a younger, up-and-coming dude, also an immigrant, so I'm hopeful. But I'm judging by the looks, which is pretty ridiculous to say the least:-)

ReplyDeleteThis is getting ridiculous. Important point is that Vinci owns BUD, while BEG is only concession. So in 20 years BEG for Vinci would be competitor, not a part of business.

DeleteThe Belgrade Airport concession tender in 2018 was not open to holders of a 20% or larger stake in any airport within a 450-kilometre radius of Belgrade.
But if they acquire stake in 2019 or later, it's fine. On the other hand, INI's growth is limited by the contract of BEG concession. Negotiations done bad, extremely bad. Not by accident, I'm afraid...
DeleteExactly INI is held back whilst BUD grows. INI was doing just great on its own before BEG was privatised and this Aerodromi Srbije arrangement came in and they pushed good management out.
DeleteI have yet to hear a good explanation of how BUD and BEG are competitors in 2024. One is a low-cost heaven and a major global tourist destination with mostly P2P travel, the other is the hub of an up-and-coming legacy airline that increasingly relies on transfers. One is in Schengen and the EU, the other one isn't. Where exactly is the overlap? Long gone are the days where Serbs would travel from BUD en masse.
DeleteBUD and BEG are not competition. It is okay that VINCI is managing BUD as well as managing BEG. Things will be okay.
DeleteRennes Airport had roughly 1 million passengers in the past while Toulon around half of Rennes´ traffic. It might take a bit more time for him to take grip of a much larger airport. But Vinci's move is surprising. They could've shifted someone from another airport with the same traffic as BEG. We will see how this ends up. This guy should try and convince Ryanair to finally come to BEG.
ReplyDeleteI mean yeah he should as it's generally a good thing, but there's nothing to base it on him being THE guy to bring in Ryanair or whatever cause neither of the two airports he managed in the past have their flights.
DeleteFunnily enough Rennes with Air France making like half of it's traffic so it's similar with Belgrade in terms of having a dominant flag carrier, but a whole different passenger structure
Bringing Ryanair is not in the interest neither the airport, nor the country. Look at North Macedonia. They have 0 connectivity to anything which is not gastarbeiter destination. 0 value for the business and the development of the country.

DeleteCustomer experience will be the key. Passengers will look for the following in the next 12 months: completion of the central airside zone next to Duty Free area, opening of food & beverage outlets along C and A piers, opening of remaining luggage belts and managing passenger queues during peak times.

ReplyDeleteHe's a complete idiot who was criticized for the way Rennes airport has been managed (the airport is at about 500.000 pax per year).
This is totally crazy and would require the intervention of the Serbian government.
