Croatia Airlines touches down in Tirana

NEWS FLASH

Croatia Airlines inaugurated seasonal flights between Zagreb and Tirana last week, marking its return to the Albanian capital for the first time since November 1996. Flights will be maintained twice per week, however, due to a fleet shortage, the service has been suspended following the inaugural until July 5. Commenting on the new route launch, Marija Pavić, Croatia Airlines’ Head of Sales, said, “We are delighted to include Tirana in our network of international destinations this year and link it to Zagreb. We are certain passengers will recognise the advantages of nonstop flights, as well as the possibility of connecting through Zagreb, both for leisure and business trips. Likewise, we believe that this service will contribute to strengthening economic and friendly relations between our two countries”. Riza Poda, the Ambassador of Albania in Croatia, said, “I am confident that Croatia Airlines’ nonstop service will give an additional lift to tourism, trade and investment between Albania and Croatia and help continue the momentum in building even closer ties between our two countries. The launch of direct flights between Zagreb and Tirana is a great addition to our excellent political and economic relations”.

According to Albanian media load on the first ZAG-TIA flight was 44 passengers. Which is kind of visible in the second photo.

Hilarious. It's a PR stunt. They just did the inaugural flight, cut the cake and the ribbon and that's all. They lack the capacity to perform flights and will discontinue flying until the end of month. I bet it will be prolonged even into July. Deep into July.

    4. ^ Yeah probably because yesterday they lost another plane, this time an A-319 on a flight from Zagreb to Copenhagen. Something with hydraulics. It had already taken off but had to return to Pleso.
      Now they're two birds down.

Those Ryan-esque ads in the plane don't look good. I guess they get loads of money from the tourism board for this non-forbiden campaign of milking the state budget...

I personally don’t mind them, especially the one I see on the photo. Croatia has nice looking scenery and they won’t miss by advertising it.

Well said. Well said. If you could see in the seat pockets there you would find a unbelievable piece of paper. Airport Split's pamflet. They are milking them too by somebody's decree

44 pax and they sent A320 instead of Dash-8.

    Wonderful management

They sent A319, your point still stands

From what I’ve noticed, Air Serbia tends to do this as well on inaugural flights. I think it has to do with optics and making a strong first impression.

^ No, the A319 is scheduled on all flights to Tirana, it's not a one off for inaugural.

They probably sold more seats, but when you then get told "we are cancelling flights for the next 2 weeks" you just ask for your money back and move on.

They had to urgently wet lease a DAT A320 - flying now from CPH (OY-RUH), this one will be especially costly as it was not planned at all ZAG-CPH flight got diverted and A319 (CTG) is now out of service

It was reported here a week ago. Many aircraft out of service undergoing maintenance, missing spare parts, late A220 (was supposed to come in February and second in April).

Scarfs are highly visible and ideally positioned for incorporating country simbols. Well done, many airlines use the same approach:

Surely high end jobs should be on the line for all these delays and cancellations. Oh sorry I forgot OU is run by the government and plebs of the government.

No you got it wrong. Croatia is a constitutional representative democracy where all power belongs to the people and comes from the people.

    2. Yup. Mere comparison of the way OU's representatives talk about their business plans - basically as programed drones, and how privately owned Trade Air's reps do it, says a lot in and of itself.
I know the two companies have completely different business models, but still...Trade Air is a profitable company, soon expanding its fleet from 6 to 8 aircraft. They're not tiny anymore.

No it won't because it's a seasonal flight. So they will operate until October. I'd better want Dash instead of A319. They're better for regional flights

Making an inaugural flight and then canceling flights for the next 2 weeks, so these passengers can not return to ZAG is crazy. Like what on earth were they thinking? Why not make an inaugural flight in July then?
