Skopje registers second month of declining figures

NEWS FLASH

Skopje Airport saw its passenger figures decline for a second consecutive month in May as a result of Wizz Air’s network reductions, caused by the grounding of a significant portion of its Airbus A320neo-family fleet. The airport welcomed 256.971 travellers during the month, down 1.3% on 2023. This is despite an 11.6% increase in aircraft movements. During the January - May period, Skopje Airport handled 1.098.588 passengers, up 14.7% following a record first quarter.

Interesting how good is OU at SKP. Not sure why is JU is not trying to improve stats. OK, SKP is close to SRB but anyway

So thay should add more frequencies but now that big mama is also operating to SKP it depends from them. This winter OS will operate 11 times to SKP and LH will operate 10.

@Admin, do you know by chance total seats for 2024 @Skopje airport. As things stand, I can't see them passing that 3 million mark they expected to reach this year.

    1. Momentarily, scheduled capacity for 2024 stands at 3.343.580, however, this will likely change since many airlines are yet to update their winter schedules including Wizz Air.

    2. Anonymous15:21

Thank you admin. I guess, 3 million is not probable with this preliminary data, even if this figure increases to 3.6 million, I don't think Skopje can hit 3,0 million mark this year, especially with Wizz air fleet shortages.

It will finish the year same like last year 2.8 or 2.9 milion pax , if this numbers continues through the summer , what can be a surprise in the numbers are the charters flights ....as I heard from the agencies this is probably their busiest and best summer speaking for tourists going on the charters destinations.

Admin what do you mean including Wizz Air? Can we expect new reductions from them this winter or are they planing to increase the operations? Yesterday they announced new routes from Milan and Gdansk for this winter so who knows.

    5. Wizz Air is currently increasing/restoring frequencies from select bases, therefore it is possible there will be changes in Skopje.

I think they will increase capacity from SKP base the end of the summer and beggining of winter season ...

The airport is great....actually it is more pleasant and relaxed experience than any airport SKP flies too. Never lines at check in, never lines at passport, security. What it needs is revision of the extremely high prices at Burger King Probably the most expensive BK in the world.

And the coffee at the coffeeshops, 225 denari for one makiato which is almost 4 euros. That is the price you put in big airports not in Skopje where the price of the same coffee is 100 denari in the city.

Yes thats why I ask why need overhaul for what .. the airport is still new , modern , they keep it renovating where it needs , its clean , they make new luggage system ,more modern and faster , they will also open 10 new counters.. what really needs is station waters , shuttle service and train connection and of course bringing new airlines and destination.

The airport is one of the best i have been for its size. Modern, simple, clean, practical, well designed.

So this basicly shows the same number of pax like from 2023 , with little difference the airport will finish this year with closely to 3m ....

Seems fine, a transitional year. Getting to 3M would be welcome, but even staying at 2.8M will be fine. Expecting a big increase next year, once wizzair doubles down on its expansion. So, sick of riding fully booked planes, I haven't taken a single non-full one in the last 10 months. Capacity needs to increase.

Airlines want full flights. That's how they make money. Get used to it. It may be many, many more months before you fly a non full one.

    3. Anonymous00:30

Wow, thank you so much captain obvious... Every flight is full, that isn't normal. So much capacity is wasted.

Passport issues. The outgoing government changed the name, forgot to change the documents. Lots of people do not want to bother to get a new passport which is the only document Macedonian citizens can use to travel from Alexander the Great airport

Well, will see in a few months if the numbers climb up. And it seems that it takes some special mindset to believe that passport issues have nothing to do with the numbers of SKP when people are not allowed to board the planes with valid passports with Republic of Macedonia. Кој ти дозволи да го напуштиш трлото? Волкот да не ти ги изеде овците?

    3. Anonymous11:43

Ne ti ja razbiram rechenicata posho ne sum od selo. For your infromation, the decline in pax numbers comes after Wizz Air reduced its capacity in SKP. That is by removing the sixth jet which they deployed in mid December last year and by deplooying five A320s with 180 seats each instead of five A321s which have 230 seats and which were deployed last summer. It has nothing to do with the passports and i am sure that everyone who expected to travel this summer got the new passport, weather that is by normal procedure, so vrski or with fast procedure like me. We are unlikely to see that the numbers will increase in a few months but not because of your unlogical theory but because of the reasons i named above. Every flight of W6 from and to SKP is packed till the last seat. So stop saying the same over and over again cause it does not make any sense.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous11:46

Also if you tried to learn anything new but your stupid theory, you would have known that SKP Airport offers 15.000 seats less for July when compared to last year. It comes as a result of the reductions by Wizz Air. So tell me now, isnt it logical for you that we will have less pax this July compared to the one last year if less seats are offered? What you are saying would make sense only if more seats are offered compared to last year and there are no reductions, but yet we handle less passengers.

And the very same passports that are not good for boarding from SKP are good enough for PRN and TIA and all the others… Is it clear now?

Bit it’s good for the people that travel to any Schengen country. Imagine that you can not travel from your nearest airport to get back to the country where you work, but you can from the ones nearby i.e. SKP vs PRN or TIA

      Delete
  9. Anonymous14:26

It will be trickt for SKP to recover its numbers and return to growth if it does not find an alternative for another airline that is not Wizzair. The difference with PRN is now getting bigger and bigger and the rapid expansion on Tirana is not helping and hurts SKP somehow. SKP should work hard on restoring Dubai and Doha flights, base at least 1 Ryanair plane, restore the previous Nordic villages, etc.
