Low cost carrier Wizz Air will commence flights between Rome Fiumicino Airport and Sarajevo this coming winter season on October 29. The new three weekly service has been scheduled and put on sale seven months after local tourism authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina's capital selected the budget carrier as a recipient of subsidies for a new route from Italy. The service will be maintained three times per week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Wizz Air faces no competition on the route, becoming the sole operator between Sarajevo and Italy. Wonderful news! Finally! Off topic but I am so curious about the LF on the Wizz flights towards the UK and the FR flights to the UK. I notice W6 often uses the a321 and FR flies several times a week so I assume that the LF is high? But is it truly? I mean, of all tourists I meet on the streets it is rarely anyone from the UK, so who is actually even using the flight if we know that Bosnians can hardly make their way to the UK due to visa, expensive etc? Anyone who has an insight?
ReplyDeleteThere are A LOT of British tourists in Sarajevo currently. So I assume they are using the flights. If you just search on youtube, there are new travel vlogs from Brits popping up every day or two over there.
DeleteAnd this can only be good news. Brit travellers are usually "loyal" and love repeating the destination if they like it. Even if they have this false fame of being drunk, etc, you also have the other extreme of them booking flights 1 year in advance :) SJJ must look into Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and also Dublin! Whatever they say, UK market is very important.
DeleteAccording to flyingbosnian blogspot during April of 2024, between London Stansted and Sarajevo, Ryanair operated a total of 26 flights (both ways), transporting 4.000 passengers with the average cabin load factor of 81,48% or 154 passengers per flight on average.
DeleteWizz Air has got similar numbers too. Dublin would work from Sarajevo, especially inbound. Bosnians technically need a visa for Ireland although there is no visa fee, only issue being the documents need to be submitted in Ljubljana. The government should look into a visa consulate to ease the process and then you'd get Bosnians traveling as well

DeleteIf BiH is able to unlock a 70 million market, that would be great! If London has worked so well for Sarajevo, so will Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Dublin. Either way, SJJ has not growing this year and this is simply impressive!!!

DeleteThere are a lot of Bosnian citizens living all over the UK. As well as flying directly Wizz and Ryanair,- Austrian, Lufthansa, Croatia Airlines are popular Airlines to fly with to Sarajevo. A lot of people going to Mostar or Medjogorje also fly into Split Airport.

Ne ide to baš tako, Sarajevo je ovo identificiralo kao bitnu rutu prije 2 godine i na kraju je Wizz odredio da treba uvesti baš Rim

ReplyDeleteSarajevo needs to focus a lot more on European flights than the Middle east. Paris,Barcelona,Dublin, Munich just to name a few.
ReplyDeleteMemmingen covers Munich, most of the region avoids MUC due to fees. Paris is needed, Dublin would work as someone else said and Barcelona will probably be introduced after the talks, both sides are interested and so is Iberia. The airport will have additional meetings with Ryan and Vueling but Iberia are the frontrunners so Madrid won't be a LCC flight most likely but Ryan are interested in Girona-Sarajevo.
DeleteActually Volotea is the perfect airline for Sarajevo. Their planes are not large, they do secondary airports, but with more significance. Even if they begin seasonal flights from April-October like they usually do, it will still be a win for Sarajevo.
DeleteI simply do not agree that it’s a question of ”this or this” its not like they exclude one another, as a matter of fact, ideally they will focus on all. Sarajevo has a potential to cover both and therefore it should, compared to many other european capitals where lots of middle easteen flights wouldnt make it. So i hope they focus on all available flights and push to cover what is not already covered :)

ReplyDeleteHopefully we see Ryanair attacking in Sarajevo. They usually always target Wizzair especially on busier routes. Ryanair became obsessed wth Eastern Europe, the strength is in their fleet. They simply have many many planes compared to Wizz. Sarajevo is doing really great and BiH compared to its population and number of airports.
