Iceland's PLAY adds second destination in Croatia

NEWS FLASH

Icelandic low cost carrier PLAY will commence seasonal flights between Reykjavik and Pula next summer, as well as increase operations on its Split service. The new Pula flights will commence on May 31 and run once per week, each Saturday, until August 16. Tickets are now available for purchase through the airline’s website. In addition, services to Split, which will resume on April 14, will be maintained twice per week, on Mondays and Thursdays, up from this year’s weekly rotation. Further flight details for the new Reykjavik - Pula service can be found here.

PLAY recently told EX-YU Aviation News, “We are pleased with how our Split services have been received. The majority of our passengers on the Split route are Icelandic. However, we are hopeful that, over time, the local population in the Split area will discover our services and take advantage of the opportunity to catch low cost flights to Iceland and our North American destinations. We are also seeing passengers from North America taking advantage of our stopover option”.

Commenting on the new Pula service, PLAY’s CEO, Einar Orn Olafsson, said, "We are excited to add Pula to our growing list of destinations. Croatia has been a popular choice for our passengers, and expanding our presence there reflects the strong demand. We are committed to providing affordable, reliable travel options, and this new route strengthens our network even further".

Would've thought that Zadar or Dubrovnik would be next, but I'm happy for Pula!

Same. When I read the headline I thought to myself "It's gonna be either Dubrovnik or Zadar, right?

This is a pleasant surprise nonetheless

Hey, that's pretty nice. I've been wanting to visit Iceland for awhile now and PUY is only 2 hours away from where I live (Slovenia)

Looks like airlines interested in Slovenian passengers will launch routes to anywhere but Slovenia, funny how that works.

We dont need masive tourism. We need highly loucrative and rich people comming here.
Hence we dont need low budget airline.
We will revivr CA and it will compete with AD in next 4 to 5 years.

If you don’t become at the level of Saint Tropez or Marbella there wouldn’t be any rich tourists. Plus the majority of tourists coming to Croatia till today are stil of working class. And if you would’t stop selling them imported fish and fried patatoes at expensive prices even they would not come either or will spend just minimal necessary.
