NEWS FLASH
Low cost carrier Eurowings plans to launch flights from Berlin and Dusseldorf to Ljubljana. The airline was the only one to apply to the most recent public call issued by the Slovenian government aimed at attracting new carriers to the country in return for subsidies. According to “Forbes Slovenia”, the aid granting commission will convene this week to determine if Eurowings has met the necessary conditions. The budget carrier aims to launch operations from the German capital to Ljubljana on April 11 and from Dusseldorf on April 12. As previously reported, destinations in Germany hold high potential from Ljubljana.
Finally, that’s something at least.
ReplyDeleteFinally Berlin!
ReplyDeleteStop posting any positive news, don't you know people here only want to be miserable about LJU performance.
ReplyDeleteWe dont want to be miserable, the performance of LJU is the miserable one. Hope to get better.
DeleteWhy is it miserable? Ljubljana is one of the smallest capital cities in Europe and Slovenia one of the smallest countries in the world. There are large airports all around the country, there are mountains for skiing and outdoor tourism nearby and there is Italy and the Adriatic sea for all summer holidays. Hundreds of thousands of Slovenian nationals own homes in Croatia, mostly Istria. Why should the airport have more passengers?
DeleteBecause people burn fuel to reach Zagreb, Trieste, or Venice to fly?
DeleteIf -30% compared to 2019 is not miserable then there is something wrong with you.
Deleteunfortunately it's true. My friends and family in LJU mostly fly from Italian Airports to Europe or Latin America (TRS, VCE, BGY). I even given them infos about ZAG flights or news of LJU, but they book all the time departures from Italian Airports. Last week they came back from FCO on AZ to TRS and same week one person started on IB ex VCE to LIM. They were also in PMO and TFS and this year and departed from Italy.
Delete@14:14 It is practically the same amount of feul burned for me traveling from Maribor to LJU, ZAG or GRZ. The same is for people from "primorska region" going to TRS/TSF instead of LJU. You simply go to the airport that is most convenient...
Delete@14:33 Correct in all aspects. Some people from the LJU surrounding think that coming to LJU costs nothing or the distance to the other airports is not the same for most Slovenian citizens (about 66% or more) . Those people also forget the ugly thruth, abot the connectivity of the aiports closer or the similar distance than to LJU. And prices also.
Delete@14:14 - the comment is metioned for you, not 14:33. Sorry
DeleteIf slovenians are so keen to drive to all the neighbouring airports why there is no spillover effect to neighbouring airports on routes which all well covered from LJU? Why almost noone flies to IST from ZAG or VCE? Why almost noone fly to FRA or MUC from ZAG or VCE, even if fares are generally speaking MUCH lower from ZAG or VCE?
Delete^and how do you know they don't? From all I know we always check the prices of airports around us (at least venice, ,trieste, vienna, graz, even klagenfurt) and at the end pick the cheapest (considering also parking and fuel+vignette prices). For that reason I have flown to IST from LJU as well as ZAG, and via IST to Thailand from VCE
DeleteSOME PEOPLE FROM LJUBLJANA THINK THAT SLOVENIA 🇸🇮 IS ONLY LJUBLJANA.The people living in littoral western slovenia are using TIESTE,VENICE AND TREVISO AIRPORTS …IS EASY ACCESS…
DeleteFully agree with Anon18:07. And all those people are surprised by low demand. The eastern part is more oriented toward ZAG GRZ, VIE and BUD. Escpecially for prices, connections and easier access against risky traffic situations toward LJU. GRZ, VIE and BUD are also easily accessible by public transportation. Regarding those facts, western and eastern part pax are less interrested for LJU. Small country and market also plays a major role, including Fraports long time sleep regarding connections. It is somehow too late by my opinion.
DeleteThat would be very important additions, especially Berlin. Hope that it comes to fruition.
ReplyDeleteIn Germany, people call Berlin "Kolkata at river Spree" - noone, really noone wants to go there, except maybe criminal gangs.
Delete12+ millions of tourist in 2023 didn’t care about it or even like Kolkota vibe.
DeleteI visited over 40 European cities in the last 4 years and I must say that Berlin was the biggest disappointment.
Deletei love berlin... best nightlife
DeleteBerlin the coolest city in Europe
DeleteI agree, love diversity of the city, great nightlife with lots of alternative music not just generic mainstream. On the other hand also a fantastic range of cultural events, from exhibitions to concerts.
DeleteAmazing, very excited about this!
ReplyDeleteHopefully not just one or two weekly
ReplyDeleteBerlin just doesn't work from LJU, just like ZAG
DeleteAh it's the dežurni no demand guy again.
DeleteIt's just the truth, why didn't U2 work in the past to LJU and EW to ZAG?
DeleteEurowings used to serve Berlin from Zagreb till COVID
DeleteIf it didn't work then U2 wouldn't fly the route for more than 3 years.
DeleteThey even planned to go 4 weekly. If they start berlin it will effect croatia on their zg berlin route
Delete45k between ljubljana and berlin in 2019 was not bad
Deletemore TK flights, new Eurowings to DUS and BER. Nice to see some positive development. I hope that LX will continue with their 14 weekly ZRH-LJU flights, currently they just have scheduled 11 with the old schedule (no early morning 0630h departure) and hopefully IB returns to MAD again but lit bit longer than just 5 weeks.
ReplyDeleteI don't expect to see LX with a morning departure in STT.
DeleteExciting to see member of a friendly Luthansa Group family receive subsidies to expand presence in Ljubljana. LH Group firmly leads the way in Slo.
ReplyDeleteThank you mama Lufti
DeleteIt is a public tender, so open to everyone.
DeleteConspiracy theories don't care about your facts.
DeleteBravo Fraport!
ReplyDeleteHvala Fraport for all the engagement to attract new carriers. Im sure they all around route development forums. #sarcasm
ReplyDeleteGood for Slovenia! Interesting fact, pilots from EWG have their base training flights in MBX on A319 and A320 and are very satisfied.
ReplyDeleteMaribor keeps winning
DeleteVery nice!
ReplyDeleteYes, please! We desperately need Eurowings in this part of Europe. And it's also great for those of us who are still in the Miles and More scheme back from the Adria times...
ReplyDeleteEurowings is not a member of *alliance.
DeleteEurowings is one of the most unreliable airlines in Europe. It's nothing to get excited about.
DeleteAnon 18:50 was talking about Miles & More and Eurowings is part as M&M.
DeleteDid Fraport and the ministry jointly work on all these public calls or the initiative was on Fraport’s side and the ministry only rolled out the call?
ReplyDeleteThey certainly did. If it wasn't for Fraport initiative, the ministry would have done nothing because they literally do not have a clue. Very few people in the ministry know what this business is all about and they should collaborate more with Fraport in the future to keep it rolling
DeleteNice! I am only suprised why Fraport doesnt even publish all these public calls on their LinkedIn (where they are pretty active with their land business, less they care about the connectivity) or their website. But its good to hear Fraport was the driving force behind the call.
DeleteDude, it wasnt. Fraport could not care less about the connectivity.
The interrest will depend on prices, but LJU has a bad reputation about prices, with some occasional exceptions. The eastern part of the country is already lost for LJU-BER, since GRZ is well covered on this route and I don't believe pax will rather travel to LJU than to much closer GRZ. The flights are often full and with many pax from Slovenia and from neigbouring parts of Croatia. I dont know how the route is covered for the pax from western part over nearest airports. But let's wait and see how the things will develop. Maybe the decison is the right one.
ReplyDeleteThe demand is very strong at the moment, with many passengers using LH group via hubs. Back in 2019 the load factor on Easyjet was beyond 80%, so I think it will work just fine.
DeleteThe demand due to the pax from othe parts of the country gravitating to other airports is very likely limited to the people living somehow near to LJU. But if this is enough the time will give the answer. LJU is well connected to MUC and FRA with their perfect connections. Who knows if BER can also serve as the hub and also why. Mama Lufti knows. But it is only my humble opinion.
DeleteBerlin is mostly P2P. But the demand is not limited to Ljubljana city, people will come from other areas if the schedules and the fares are competitive. Migration of pax is possible in all directions.
