Sarajevo Airport will see the launch of eight new routes over the next two years, the Government of the Sarajevo Canton has announced. It comes in response to a recent public call by the Sarajevo Canton Tourism Association, offering subsidies to support the launch of additional routes from the city. Low cost carrier Ryanair will outline four new routes at the start of next month, complementing Stockholm Arlanda which was put on sale in October for launch in April 2025. Eurowings will inaugurate services from Berlin next summer season, which begins on March 30, while flights to Hamburg, Dusseldorf and Hannover will commence in 2026. The airline already maintains operations from Stuttgart and Cologne to Bosnia and Herzegovina's capital.
Other new additions to Sarajevo Airport's network next year will include Norwegian's introduction of seasonal flights from Copenhagen, complementing its existing services from Stockholm and Oslo. Wizz Air will commence a new seasonal service from Memmingen between June and August, while Swiss International Air Lines will add operations between Geneva and Sarajevo in 2026, in addition to its Zurich flights. Other airlines that applied for the public call include SnnExpress and LOT Polish Airlines in order maintain their existing routes. "These new routes are the result of incentive measures by the Government of Sarajevo Canton, the Ministry of Economy of Sarajevo Canton, the Sarajevo Canton Tourism Association, and Sarajevo Airport, all working together to improve the city’s accessibility as an attractive tourist destination", the government said in a statement.
The Sarajevo Canton Tourism Association previously listed a number of cities it deems of strategic importance and for which it will provide subsidies, They include Berlin, Memmingen, Malmo, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Paris, Basel, Amsterdam, Eindhoven, London, Brussels, Rome, Milan, Budapest, Prague, Barcelona, Girona, Madrid, Geneva, Stockholm, Oslo, Dusseldorf, Athens, Skopje, Izmir, Antalya, Warsaw, Hamburg, Rotterdam, and Baden Baden.
Must be Malta
ReplyDeleteKeep Ryanair out of Sarajevo! It would be better for the government to invest the money into a new flag carrier instead.
ReplyDeleteYou really think the government is competeny to set up a national carrier?
Delete* competent
DeleteYea, any poor micro country "should invest into national carrier". What is wrong with you people, are you on this planet?
DeleteBalkanmania unfortunately
DeleteAnon@9:12 State incompetence is precisely the thing which makes new national carrier possible.
DeleteNot really. Anyway B&H Airlines failed and Air Bosna before it. There is no reason to think it would succeed for a third time.
DeleteAnyone remember B&H Airlines' Sarajevo-Copenhagen flights on the ATR72 :D Think it lasted close to 3 hours.
DeleteGreat news for Sarajevo!
ReplyDeleteThey might launch Skopje :)
ReplyDeleteNo, they will launch flights from their bases to Sarajevo
DeleteThats what he wants to say they will lauch SJJ-SKP flights , because Aegean suspend the route.
DeleteSarajevo is not a Ryanair base and won't be one anytime soon
DeleteIts just subsided routes without a base
DeleteThey put SKP in their wish list , thats nice :))
ReplyDeleteSo another great year in for SJJ n 2025
ReplyDeleteWonder which ones it will be
ReplyDeleteWe will find out in under 2 hours.
DeleteMy guess: Prague, Girona, Malta, Beauvais and probably some German destination.
ReplyDeleteI suspect you are wrong on all except BVA.
DeleteGirona/Barcelona will be there for sure
DeleteIt will be four cities from that list in the last paragraph of the article
Delete@9.52, ok so which routes do you think it will be?
DeleteI think the four new routes with Ryanair are Paris, Mailand, Bruxelles and Baden-Baden
DeleteMailand and Bruxelles are not happening buddy
DeleteFantastic news for Sarajevo
ReplyDeleteSo is Ryanair the only airline that won the subsidies?
ReplyDeleteSeems like it this time around.
DeleteIt seems like the same scenario as W6 two years ago ... maybe i am wrong but smells on that.
DeleteSomeone was mentioning Norwegian and Copenhagen, not sure whether that will be announced as well
Deletei just don't get the policy of subsidising routes that are already in operation. SAS flies from Copenhagen, they are also getting subsidies for it. Why now subsidies Norwegian too?
DeleteWell done Sarajevo!!! This year has been fantastic for you, next year even better!
ReplyDeleteBerlin,Gothenburg,Copanhagen,Male,Memingen,Hamburg and Baden are my bets!! :)
ReplyDeleteRyanair yesterday announce net lost of 18 % during this fiscal year , also Boeing delays are included in this losts , and even they have alot passengers they still have losts because of the cheap fares they have.
ReplyDeleteNo they didn't what are you on about, the profit is 18% less but it's still a PROFIT
DeleteThey have bruto profit but also they have neto losts , google better and you will find out , the profit comes because they have increased their capacity ad already have around 19m or around 8% more then before
DeleteYou are completely clueless.
DeleteFrom July 1st, Gothenburg will be three weekly instead of two.
ReplyDeleteI hope to Naples
ReplyDeleteI wonder if FR will start the battle regarding CPH. Nowdays the LH group is dominante on this route, but since SK will launch earlier and more frequent and since there are some ”almost confirmed” rumors about D8 doing the same, I wonder if FR will try to pick the fight.
ReplyDeleteWhere does all that money come from?
ReplyDeleteFrom the Tourist Board of Sarajevo Canton.
DeleteWhere does tourist board get all this money from?
DeleteProbably Canton budget but I'm also very interested to know how much money they are paying all these airlines. Real lack of transparency on their side.
DeleteCanton budget and the tourism tax probably
DeleteVery nice new additions!
ReplyDeletePity Ryanair didn't announce its new routes but we will see next month. Seems Eurowings is really expanding in our region next year.
ReplyDeleteFantastic additions to the city, love how they didnt put all of the eggs in one basket like SKP. Well done SJJ!
ReplyDelete+1 Especially the fact that you now have LCC and legacy carriers operating same routes. For example Copenhagen with Norwegian and SAS. So something for everyone and giving everyone choice
DeleteWell as much as I know there were not many interested airlines to SKP despite the money. So I dont think it has much to do with the airport but that the demand for SKP is not as appealing as for instance SJJ is for LCC but also such as Swiss and LOT
DeleteAthens?
ReplyDeleteGreat news. The only thing I don't get is why they keep subsidizing LOT. I mean they flew there before subsidies. By that logic you should subsidize all airlines that flew to SJJ.
ReplyDeleteSame with Sun Express
DeleteMassive year for Sarajevo Airport in 2025.
ReplyDeleteGreat way to start the day :)
ReplyDeleteLove it
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic news! Sarajevo has so much to offer, but getting there affordably has always been a challenge. Can't wait to see the new routes in action
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteGreat to see Sarajevo Airport expanding its network, but I hope the airport facilities keep up with the increase in traffic. They are already going to reach their full capacity next year.
ReplyDeleteThey have already announced terminal expansion plans
Deletehttps://www.exyuaviation.com/2024/09/sarajevo-airport-is-poised-for-another.html
DeleteThey should have implemented this terminal expansion project when they started the current terminal expansion. This project will take years to complete, considering the last small expansion also took years (and is not completely finished yet).
DeleteCompletely new airport should be built in new location.
DeleteThese new routes sound great, but I wonder if all of them will stay for the long term or if some will be seasonal and phased out if demand doesn’t meet expectations. Fingers crossed they’re here to stay.
ReplyDeleteOf course they will leave as they see the route is not going well and they will stop recieving subsidies its so simply , thats why this tenders are not always the best idea
DeleteWhat exactly makes you thing that they will leave and that these routes won't perform well?
DeleteList of destinations tourist board wants in the last paragraph are all in Europe. Tourist growth at SJJ in the past decade was mostly from TK and ME carriers. Why this complete change?
ReplyDeleteBecause it lacks flights to most European cities, especially major capitals. I mean which European capital city does not have flights to Paris?!?
DeleteSarajevo is such a culturally rich city – it deserves to be more accessible to people from all over Europe
Delete+1 last anon
DeleteAnon 13:21 In business you don't get what you deserve, you get what you negotiate. Sarajevo was also culturally rich city over the past decade but only now tourist board wants to negotiate and support flights for Euro tourists? Explanation does not make any sense.
DeleteSarajevo changed its governmnet few years back, its not the backwarded right-wing SDA party anymore, they have a progressive left government that is doing an extremely good job in the city and canton of Sarajevo, in all spheres, infrastructure, tourism, etc.
DeleteInteresting, thanks for the explanation
DeleteIf I remember correctly, Eurowings used to fly Berlin-Sarajevo some years ago. Hope they are more successful this time.
ReplyDeleteWhy is easyjet so reluctant to enter Bosnian market? Don't get it.
ReplyDeleteLow yields, barely any passengers, better opportunities elsewhere.
DeleteDoes not seem to be low yields for Ryanair or Wizz Air.
DeleteBravo!
ReplyDeleteVery nice development for Sarajevo. So how many passengers could we expect next year?
ReplyDelete2 million is my guess.
DeleteWill they organize more of these tenders?
ReplyDeleteMost likely. Almost all routes in last year came out of these tenders.
DeleteWhy are they keeping the Ryanair routes secrete for another month?
ReplyDeleteOne of the airport officials said that Ryanair wants to do its own press conference in about a month where they will reveal the routes.
DeleteThanks 👍
DeleteAny guesses what the 4 Ryanair routes could be?
ReplyDeleteGirona
DeleteParis
Dusseldorf
Dusseldorf alongside Eurowings?
DeleteWould Ryanair be willing to go head to head with Austrian to Vienna?
ReplyDeleteI think Bratislava has more of a chance
DeleteNothing out of the box really.
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one to find SWISS GVA operations to be a big, unexpected but pleasent surprise?
ReplyDeleteNo , for everyone is big suprise .
DeleteYes but unfortunately route it's not due to start until 2026
DeleteMore connections to North America. :D
DeleteI think Swiss only flies to New York from Geneva
DeleteWow, great job.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it a bit early to be announcing some of these routes for 2026?
ReplyDeleteAgree
