Air Serbia scales back summer growth

Air Serbia has reduced its planned frequency growth for the upcoming 2025 summer season, which begins on March 30. The carrier had initially planned to add 151 weekly flights per week departing Belgrade in April compared to last year, an extra 123 weekly flights in June and 137 weekly rotations in July. The additional frequencies encompassed almost fifty existing routes from an extra one weekly service on a number of destinations to up to ten additional weekly flights on others. However, following the latest revision to its schedule, it will add 73 additional weekly departing flights in April, 35 in May, 37 in June, and an extra seventeen weekly rotations in July.

Based on its existing schedule for the month of June, Air Serbia will add an extra four weekly flights compared to last summer on services between Belgrade and Tivat for a total of thirty weekly rotations. Operations to Athens will be increased by three weekly services for a total of double daily, which is down from the initially scheduled 22 weekly. Vienna will grow from fourteen to seventeen weekly flights, instead of the planned 21 weekly. Several destinations will be increased by two per week including Ankara (total of four weekly), Barcelona (ten weekly), Larnaca (double daily) and Madrid (five weekly), while a further twelve routes will see an extra weekly rotation compared to last summer. These include Malaga, Berlin, Brussels, Paris, Dubrovnik, Frankfurt, Heraklion, St Petersburg, Ljubljana, Valencia, Zagreb, and Zurich.

Air Serbia has so far scheduled the launch of three new routes for the upcoming summer, including Mykonos, Florence and Alghero, while flights to Ibiza will be put on sale once the airline secures desired slots. As EX-YU Aviation News learns, the airline is considering the addition of another new route for the upcoming summer. Furthermore, seasonal operations to Ohrid are due to resume on June 13, some two weeks ahead of 2024. Unlike most of last summer, the airline will serve Guangzhou and Nice, as well as Shanghai which will be inaugurated this weekend.

    13. On side of JU it is bad panning like other stuff is catching up to them. They don't have the fleet they wanted in the time. The problems with their service amd product they now looking to improve. But also the world is changing more so it's not the same. Economy of Europe is worse. Diaspora has less disposable income and cost of living in serbia more expensive. Then there is the political issues and cost. Cost of fuel is increasing probably tied to the issues NIS are having and that will get worse. JU would do well to keep their profitability and share of market for 2025.

      Completely agree with @anon 9.23

      The schedule changes show Air Serbia is adapting to demand. They are focusing on profitability, not just adding flights for the sake of it.

      Delete
    15. Anonymous19:36

      Air Serbia wasn't just adding flights for the sake of it when this was published on 16 Sep: "Air Serbia adds over 100 additional weekly flights in summer 2025". They planned on having additional aircraft to fulfill those additional flights, remember that? It's not just about adapting to the sudden drop in demand, it's also lack of aircraft. Let's be transparent about the fact Air Serbia managed to add just one dry lease Embraer to the fleet in about 10 months since Marathon contract was cancelled.

      Take very much anything you read in the comments section with a huge grain of salt. Many people in the comments here make things up but write their claim as if they actually know something. For example, you have someone complaining that they deployed A330 to Rome with 130 passengers. The reason they deployed it is because crew are currently getting upgraded on the type and they need the experience.

So, one should always read them within such context and not as real concern or constructive criticism. It would have been good if the airline would make a presentation now that the new year has started about its plans and especially its fleet strategy going forward.
      Like when is Pupin going for the cabin upgrade and when it would return on scheduled flights.
      Or when more Embraers will arrive and how many.

      Delete
    10. Anonymous12:09

      I don't think 99.8% of the general public knows what Pupin is, cares when Pupin is going for a retrofit nor knows what a retrofit is. People here live in their own world and demand to know everything the airline is going to do. The only reason we have as much information as we have is because the airline is open to giving details about certain things. There were past managements when they said nothing and no one knew anything.

  7. Anonymous09:49

      @Anonymous 12:40

      Small growth for the second year in a row should be unsatisfactory for Air Serbia as reductions are compared to what Air Serbia already expected when they entered flights into booking system months ago. New routes should be unsatisfactory for Air Serbia as leisure destinations such as Mykonos and Alghero are not going to generate significant transfer growth, esp for long haul. Except for Nice, Air Serbia didn't seize the opportunity to expand on Wizz territory while Wizz is having engine problems and that failure has to be unsatisfactory for Air Serbia. It should be very unsatisfactory for Air Serbia to have failed announced ambitions to open new routes to Romania and announcements like this: Air Serbia "taking a lot of measures" for new round of growth in 2025. Mid term goals of doubling in size in 5 years (4 since we are in 2025 now) are now at risk:
