Luxair discontinues Belgrade service

NEWS FLASH

Luxair will discontinue its seasonal flights between Luxembourg and Belgrade. Last week the carrier closed reservations between the two cities. The airline planned to serve the route this summer twice per week from July 5 until August 30 with its Dash 8 Q400 turboprop aircraft. It introduced operations to the Serbian capital in 2021 on a year-round basis but has since consistently reduced operations on the route and downgraded flights to seasonal. This summer, Luxair will continue to serve Ljubljana, Tivat, Dubrovnik, Zadar and Brač in the former Yugoslavia. The airline had also previously maintained operations to Podgorica and Split, both of which have been discontinued.

    What were the loads like?

    1. Anonymous11:13

Loads were fine in high season, problem is that no one likes to spend 02H10 minutes in a turboprop aircraft to be honest, so people were taking connections via MUC or FRA.

    2. Anonymous11:20

Also Luxair is very much dependant on seasonal traffic, so if a plane isn't near 100% in loads they can utilise it on another route better

Half of their routes are summer leisure destinations lol

    3. Anonymous11:23

They are actually suspending quite a few routes. Luxair I mean.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous16:56

of course, people choose their destinations based on the type of aircraft; nonstop and prices are completely irrelevant

      Delete
    5. Anonymous17:33

And instead of 2.10 on turboprop, people choose to fly 3-4 hours the connected flights.

    4. @11:17 What Sun d'Or and Sky Express? They already flew seasonal to Belgrade last year, they are not new, they just continue their summer seasonal service...Ok, Transavia, LCC of Air France...You're right for that

    5. Anonymous20:13

Sun d'Or is not seasonal but year round. In fact this winter they operate 3 weekly flights which is more than they had in summer (2 weekly). Also Sun Express adds second destination this summer.

    6. But they started last year as seasonal, right? Anyways, they are not new to BEG...I don't understand why they were mentioned in comments of my post...Air Serbia also added some new routes this year, Lufthansa added more flights as well..but that was not the topic

      Delete
    7. Anonymous20:21

No, they launched year round flights in July 2024, two months before China Southern which you yourself mentioned so I don't know why it would not be mentioned.

    8. Ok, yea , you can look at it that way...I thought lately, even China Southern was announced already 5 months ago, Sun d'Or started flights in July, but I think it was anounced earlier , somewhere during last year spring, so 8-9-10 months ago..Anyways, I thought they were supposed to fly seasonal

    Potential market for JU

  7. Anonymous13:16

    Not a big lost.

  8. Anonymous14:17

JU can start the route twice a week with E190.

  9. Anonymous14:17

Good riddance. That 2-3 hour flight in a tiny box is painful. If they want to come back they should be forced to pay extra. If LFs were high then JU can simply fly there and use a better aircraft, thanks for the extra market share. From what I hear, the situation in Lux is not great, with unions preparing for a strike.

Yes seriously, get a reality check dude....
And tiny box?? 2hr on Q400 is nothing different then 2hr on ATR ..
And JU has many of those routes.

^ and it is interesting how triggered you get every time 😂 truly hilarious. Like someone sticks a fork in your eye. Do people from Serbia or any other country have less of right to dare comment about any other country?

    5. @14:17 I believe you're the owner of Air Serbia, right?

Not a big loss. And the Q400 is actually a very comfortable plane. So it has nothing to do with the two hours flight time.
