Ryanair unveils four new Sarajevo routes

Low cost carrier Ryanair will introduce four new routes from Sarajevo next summer season in return for subsidies provided by the local tourism authority. They will complement the previously announced new service from Stockholm Arlanda also due to start in the summer. The budget carrier will introduce flights from Baden Baden, Beauvais, Girona and Weeze to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital from late March and early April. All four routes will be maintained twice per week, with further details available on the links below. The new services will mark the only flights from Sarajevo to both the Spanish and French markets. Tickets are due to go on sale tomorrow when the tourism authority will formally announce the new network additions at a press conference due to begin at 09:30 CET.

The addition of the four cities will bring Ryanair’s Sarajevo network to eleven destinations, complementing Bergamo, Charleroi, Gothenburg, Stockholm Arlanda, Memmingen, London Stansted and Thessaloniki. As a result, the airline will maintain 27 weekly departing flights from Sarajevo. In addition to the new routes, Ryanair is also increasing frequencies on services to Bergamo from two to four weekly, as well as to Charleroi and Gothenburg from two to three weekly each. Therefore, during the 2025 summer season, Ryanair will have fourteen additional weekly flights out of Sarajevo when compared to the previous summer.

Ryanair faces no direct competition on any of the four latest additions to its Sarajevo network. Previously, Wizz Air used to maintain operations between Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital and Beauvais, lasting from July 2021 until September 2022. Within Europe, Amsterdam, Paris, Brussels, Prague and Milan remain Sarajevo’s busiest unserved routes based on indirect traffic flow, although Ryanair now covers a number of these destinations through secondary airports including Beauvais, Charleroi and Bergamo. In addition to Ryanair, the Sarajevo Canton Tourism Association has also secured a new service between Copenhagen and Sarajevo through Norwegian, set to launch in May, as well as a number of new European destinations due to begin in 2026.

Highly doubt European tourists will come to SJJ with these flights. These are for Bosnian diaspora and some tourism from here to Barcelona.

What do you guys know about tourism? What do you know about Sarajevo as destination? What do you know about travel habits of Catalonians? Like why do you comment? Every single route brings tourists AS WELL! Bosnia had no diaspora in Spain. Neither Paris, very few. Once I flew as a crew from Zagreb to CRL. 80% of the cabin were non-Croatians who came to visit Zagreb in November. What does Zagreb offer in November? Close to NOTHING! Sarajevo, in comparison, has much more to offer. Sarajevo is exotic for Europeans. Doesn't matter that you see it differently, but it is as it is.

ZAG might not have a huge lot going for it, but it certainly has enough to occupy a tourist for a few days. The museums are interesting, the old town quite cute and a few restaurants actually offer a decent quality/price ratio.

I spent a few days between December 21st and January 4th in Sarajevo. The weather was rather foggy and it was snowing. While majority of flights were landing possibly with some delay Ryanair flights were mainly diverted to Dubrovnik and Zagreb. In winter Ryanair is not the most convenient way to arrive or leave Sarajevo. On January 4th, flight from GOT just continued to Dubrovnik, while the outbound passengers were already queuing at the gate. A few minutes later Air Serbia flight from Belgrade landed. Only 3-4 minutes later LOT's flight returned to Warsaw.
