NEWS FLASH
All commercial flights in and out of Greece have been cancelled today until 23.59 local time as a result of a 24-hour nationwide general strike, which the country’s air traffic controllers have joined. The strike is being held by unions requesting collective labour agreements across all sectors, wage increases, the reinstatement of a 13th and 14th monthly salary, as well as measures to address the housing crisis and the rising cost of living. As a result of the strike, Aegean Airlines has today cancelled its services from Athens to Belgrade and Zagreb, while Air Serbia has been forced to cancel its flight from Belgrade to the Greek capital. This is the second general strike in Greece this year which has brough air traffic to a complete halt.
Love the 13th and 14th salary demand
ReplyDeleteWhat these union tools don't realise is that in countries with actual 13th and 14th salaries, this just means that your annual salary is split into 13 or 14 instalments instead of 12. It's not on-top earnings.
DeleteAlso, those countries are not Greece which is practically bankrupt and still poorer than it was in 2008.
DeleteIt's not true. I am in Belgium and I do have 13th salary which is annual bonus or so called Christmas salary received In December. I also get 0.92 salary, so practically 14th one in May which is holiday bonus or what is called in Serbia regres. In addition there is also a bonus linked with the position and performance.

DeleteYour 13th and 14th salaries are included in the gross annual salary stipulated in your job offer/work contract. It's not bonus money. That was my point.
Why not...I'm all for it.
ReplyDeleteI love less those ridiculous bonuses executive menagement gets on top of their ridiculously high salaries 😃
Give back some bits and pieces to the bee workers.
But how? There are only 12 months in a year!
ReplyDeleteBefore the economical crisis in Greece , meaning before 2010 , employees in the public and private sector were paid an extra salary at christmass a half salary at easter and another half at 15th of August .
DeleteWhen people say "13th and 14th salary" that makes it seem like unions are asking for something absurd - more monthly salaries than there are months. But what they are asking is for Christmas and other bonuses, which are pretty common in most developed countries.
DeleteThese are not bonuses, these are whole, extra salaries.
DeleteThey are bonuses - officially called Christmas gift, holiday allowance, Easter bonus. In good companies, employees usually get a 10% bonus if they meet their targets (and the company meets the EBITDA target). 10% yearly gross is more than one salary, but it's still called a bonus and not an extra 1.5 salary.
