€3.5 million for Banja Luka Airport

Tuesday, October 20, 2015

The government of the Entity of Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina has granted Banja Luka Airport a 3.5 million euro loan to secure necessary project documentation for the construction of a cargo storage area and the purchase of necessary equipment. Banja Luka Airport is putting greater focus on cargo operations and is certified as the point of origin for animal products which are exported to Turkey. The airport handled 15.984 passengers during the first eight months of the year, down 15.2% on the same period in 2014. It is currently served only by Air Serbia. Last month, the government obliged the public operator of Banja Luka Airport, Airports of Republika Srpska, to extend a ground handling agreement with the Serbian national carrier. The operator will cover Air Serbia's airport costs and fees from January 1, 2016 until the end of the year, on December 31. The subsidies will be provided from the state budget, although the exact figure has not been made public.

And Tuzla Airport also invest in cargo business in goal to take it from Banja Luka. If that succeed we will have:

    1. Modest passengers number with less and less routes (we had 3 early this year, no just one), and less and less frequencies (I remember when Air Serbia has 10 flights per week now only 3).

    - but in same time Republic of Srpskia pays huge amount of subsidies for that route with just 3 flights per week and several hundreds passengers per month

    2. If cargo business goes to Tuzla instead od Banja Luka, and that could be real concerning costs of traffic on airport which has several flights per day instead od one per day like Banja Luka, what will be left in Banja Luka?

    - and they will spent another 3,5 million EUR for cargo

As far as I understand they spent money in airport which has no future! To spent that amount of money to support Wizzair today they could have more than 100.000 passengers per year and real need for airport.

INI has had much more passengers in 4 months than BNX for 8?

No one will go for it. An airport that has no other flights than the ones with an airline that is there just because of the subsidies. Hm. Good luck with that.
